L&I enforces workplace safety & health rules in Washington State.  Employers are required to provide a safe workplace to all employees.

  • Are you being asked to do unsafe work or have you seen something unsafe at work?
  • Have you raised your safety & health concern with management but nothing's been done?
  • Have you driven by a worksite and seen employees in danger?
  • Have you heard from a friend or family member about hazards in their workplace?
  • Were you fired, demoted, or otherwise mistreated or discriminated against at work for voicing safety & health concerns?

In Washington state, L&I handles workplace health & safety complaints and discrimination.

At L&I, the Division of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) can investigate to determine if you have been discriminated against for voicing concerns about workplace safety & health. For other types of discrimination that L&I can help with, see the Workplace Rights section of our web site.
