Find what you need for your freshman application
High school seniors can apply for admission as first-year students for the fall and spring semesters. The Admission Committee, composed of admission staff, reviews each application and is responsible for all decisions.
The Admission Committee considers many factors when reviewing freshman applications. First, academic preparation is emphasized and should include coursework in English, history, social science, foreign languages, math, and science. Second, the individuality, creativity, and intellectual promise of each freshman applicant is recognized and evaluated. Credit for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations
Eugene Lang College awards four college credits for any single AP examination in a liberal arts subject for which freshman applicants received a score of 4 or 5. The college awards eight credits for each higher-level IB subject examination in which a minimum score of 5 was earned. The maximum number of credits that can be awarded on the basis of AP and/or IB examinations is 30. Credits earned by examination count toward general credit requirements only and cannot be used to meet area-of-study requirements.
Early Action application information
Early Action applications must be submitted by November 1. A decision letter will be mailed at the end of December. Incomplete applications will be rolled forward to the regular admission pool. In some cases, the Admission Committee may need to postpone a decision in order
to review additional information. If the committee decides to postpone its decision on an application, that application will be reviewed again during the regular decision period. Applicants to a BA/BFA pathway are not eligible for Early Action.
Homeschooled applicant college requirements
Eugene Lang College welcomes applications from homeschooled students. Applicants going from homeschool to college must meet the following criteria to be considered for admission to Lang:
- The Admission Committee does not require preparation in every academic area, but homeschooled freshman applicants should demonstrate substantial work in English, history, social studies, foreign language, mathematics, and science.
- Homeschool college requirements for admission to The New School call for applicants to send an official transcript from their sponsoring high school or state homeschool association. If an official transcript is not available, they are required to submit GED, TASC, or HiSET test score results by postal mail. Homeschooled applicants
must provide the equivalent of a high school transcript with course or subject titles, duration of study for each title, content of study for each title, and an assessment of performance or “grade.”
Preferably, the courses completed at home are part of a curriculum developed and evaluated by a nationally recognized diploma-granting organization or agency. If not connected with such an organization, homeschooled applicants must obtain and submit a GED as confirmation of completing a generally acceptable secondary school curriculum. If an official
transcript from a state home school association or sponsoring public high school is not available, homeschooled students must submit an equivalency or GED, TASC, or HiSET exam results. Individual homeschool transcripts with date of completion do not suffice as official proof of
graduation.
- Homeschooled applicants must submit standardized test scores from either the SAT or theACT. Applicants may submit two standardized subject test results in lieu of the SAT.
