California Historical Resources Information System

The California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS) consists of the California Office of Historic Preservation (OHP), nine Information Centers (ICs), and the State Historical Resources Commission (SHRC). The OHP administers and coordinates the CHRIS and presents proposed CHRIS policies to the SHRC, which approves these polices in public meetings. The CHRIS Inventory includes the State Historic Resources Inventory maintained by the OHP as defined in California Public Resources Code § 5020.1(p), and the larger number of resource records and research reports managed under contract by the nine ICs.

The San Bernardino Archaeological Information Center (SBCIC) at the San Bernardino County Museum closed on April 13th, 2015. The SBCIC portion of the CHRIS inventory (all of San Bernardino County), and other SBCIC materials have been transferred to the  South Central Coastal Information Center (SCCIC) at CSU Fullerton. SCCIC staff are currently incorporating the materials into their existing inventory. The SCCIC is now processing staff-conducted records searches for San Bernardino County. CHRIS Service Delivery Model Analysis and Recommendations Report
The Office of Historic Preservation has finalized the CHRIS Service Delivery Model Analysis and Recommendations Report. The State Historical Resources Commission discussed the report and its recommendations, and heard public comments, at their workshop and meeting April 28 and 29, 2015. Written comments about the report were asked to be submitted by May 29, 2015. Those comments were shared with the Commission prior to its August 7, 2015 meeting. As reported by State Historic Preservation Officer Julianne Polanco at the August meeting, these comments have been noted and will be taken into consideration when the CHRIS begins development of a transition study.

If you have questions about this process, contact Eric Allison, CHRIS Coordinator, at eric.allison@parks.ca.gov or in hard copy to Eric Allison at our office address.
