BLM Nevada Archaeology
Twenty Arizona and Nevada educators are this school year conveying to their students knowledge acquired at the Great Basin Teachers Workshop conducted at Cathedral Gorge State Park near Panaca, Nev., in late July.
Held each summer, the five-day workshop is directed toward educators’ grades K-12 looking to implement inquiry-based science projects into their classrooms. Subjects rotate annually. This year’s curriculum was based on Project Archaeology’s Investigating Shelter and Nevada Rock Art Foundation’s educational lecture series Exploring Great Basin Archaeology.
The annual workshop is hosted by the BLM Ely District in partnership with other federal and state agencies, organizations and local businesses. Co-hosting with BLM this year were Great Basin National Park, Nevada Division of State Parks, Nevada Archaeological Association, Nevada Rock Art Foundation, Project Archaeology, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
