Below are links to commonly requested general publications of interest: - BLM General Brochure -- This brochure provides a general overview of the public lands the BLM manages, their location and character, the three broad categories of uses and activities that take place on them, and why they are important to all Americans.
- The BLM: A Sound Investment for America -- The BLM's management of public lands contributed more than $130 billion to the national economy in FY 2011. About $126 billion of that impact resulted from mineral development. Timber and grazing activity generated about $2 billion worth of economic activity.
- Public Rewards From Public Lands -- This publication contains information, State-by-State, about what the BLM-managed public lands are worth—in economic, social, and environmental terms. The BLM historically brings more money each year into the general U.S. Treasury than it costs to operate. Only the IRS, Minerals Management Service, and U.S. Customs Service send more money to the general Treasury than the BLM. Public Rewards tells that story.
- BLM's Annual Reports and Public Land Statistics -- The one location for most of the acreage figures for BLM public land management. The printed document is updated annually and includes land acres, revenue, horse numbers, fire acres, recreation use, and other valuable information. We now also have a real-time automated version!
- Resourceful Management of Our Natural Resources (1.6 Mb PDF) -- This four-page publication provides a very quick overview on the scope and complexity of the BLM's responsibilities, and charts the agency's key land management priorities based on the proposed fiscal year 2002 budget.
- Energy Facts: Onshore Federal Lands -- The BLM plays a critical role in facilitating the development of energy resources such as oil and gas, coal, geothermal, hydropower, solar, wind, and biomass in its implementation of the President’s National Energy Policy. BLM is also the leasing agent for all energy minerals on all Federal lands, and as trustee, manages mineral development on over 56 million acres of Indian lands.
