Thomas Wills

Thomas Wills is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His background is in social psychology and health psychology. He has published in areas including social support, social comparison, and stress and coping in adolescence. His research program has tested theoretical models of adolescent substance use which involve multiple levels of influence on adolescents, from broader environmental factors to family and peer influences. In recent years this has focused on self-control as a variable that affects exposure to proximal factors for smoking and alcohol use, such as affiliation with substance-using peers (Wills & Dishion, 2004). His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Cancer Institute.
