The Center For High Resolution Neutron Scattering (CHRNS), supported by the National Science Foundation and NIST, is an important component of the NCNR, providing users with access to five neutron scattering instruments.

nSoft is a NIST-led consortium for the advancement of neutron-based measurements for manufacturing of soft materials.

Neutron Techniques
Crystallography The diffraction of neutrons from a crystalline sample
furnishes information about the structural arrangement of the atoms
that compose it.
Reflectometry   probes the nanoscale structure of surfaces and interfaces
Small Angle Neutron Scattering    is a powerful method for characterizing the nanoscale structure of solids, liquids, plastics, and macromolecules.
Spectroscopy  The energy scale of neutrons ( meV ) makes them ideal probes of the dynamics of materials.
Chemical Analysis  Several nuclear methods are used at the NCNR, including prompt-gamma neutron activation analysis, instrumental neutron activation analysis, and cold-neutron depth profiling
Other Methods  Neutron interferometry, neutron radiography, and fundamental physics using neutrons are active research areas at the NCNR
Why Neutrons?  The properties of neutrons enable powerful measuement methods applicable across many fields of science and engineering.

NCNR Seminar Schedule
Butch wins PECASE award

NCNR staff scientist Nick Butch will be honored with a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, recognizing his research on the interplay of magnetism and superconductivity.

Starting July 21, 2014, driver's licenses from 7 states/territories will not be accepted as valid ID for NCNR access. Only US citizen users are affected.
The last deadline for proposals for instrument time was September 22, 2016. Review is now complete. The next deadline is Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
