Welcome to Michigan

Michigan is the second most agriculturally diverse state in the country. Michigan's unique micro-climates allow farmers to produce over 125 different food and fiber products. Agriculture, the 2nd largest industry contributes $37 billion annually to the states economy.

Michigan ranks #1 in production of black beans, cranberry beans, blueberries, tart cherries, processing cucumbers and Niagara grapes, the production of flowering and bedding plants, seed and cutting geraniums and hanging baskets.

Important Crop Year Dates to Remember

• January 2nd - Final Date for Honey producers to report number of colonies.
• January 15th - Final date to report for Apples, Blueberries, Cherries, Grapes, Peaches, Apricots, Asparagus, Caneberries, Chestnuts, Cranberries, Currants, Nectarines, Pears, Plums, Prunes, Rhubarb, and Strawberries.
• January 31st - Final date to obtain loans or LDP's on wool and mohair for the preceding year
• February 1st - Final date to report number of eligible trees and Taps for Maple Sap Producers.
• March 15th - Sales closing date for many NAP crops. See details in "NAP sales closing dates" link below
• March 31st - Final date to obtain loans or LDP's on Barley, Canola, Crambe, Flaxseed, Honey, Oats, Rapeseed, Wheat and Sesame Seed.
• May 31st - Final date to obtain loans or LDP's on Corn, Dry Peas, grain Sorghum, Lentils, Mustard Seed, Rice, Safflower Seed, Chickpeas, Soybeans and Sunflower Seed.
• July 15th - Deadline for reporting Beans (Adzuki, Black turtle, Cranberry, Great Northern, Kidney, Dark Red Kidney, Light Red Kidney, White Kidney, Pinto, Small Red, Small White/Navy, Tebo, *--Yellow Eye), Cabbage (planted 3/31-5/31), Cucumbers (planted 5/10-6/15), Forage seeding, and all other crops.
• August 15th - Deadline to report Beans (all other types), Cabbage (Planted 6/1-7/20), Cucumbers (planted 5/15-7/20 in Arenac, Bay, Gladwin, Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, Mecosta, Midland, Montcalm, Newaygo, Saginaw, Sanilac and Tuscola Counties). Cucumbers (planted 5/10-7/31 in Allegan, Muskegon and Ottawa Counties), Cucumbers (planted 6/16-8/5 in St. Joseph County).
• September 30th - Deadline to report for Aquiculture, Christmas Trees, Floriculture, Ginseng, Mushrooms, Nursery (Ornamental and Non-Ornamental) and Turfgrass Sod Producers.
• November 15th - Deadline for certification of fall planted crops, perennial crops and pasture.
