Atlético look to Luccin

Midfield player Peter Luccin has completed his transfer to Club Atlético de Madrid from RC Celta de Vigo.

French midfield player Peter Luccin has completed his transfer to Club Atlético de Madrid from relegated RC Celta de Vigo for a fee believed to be in the region of €5m.

Four-year contract
The 25-year-old will be presented at the Vicente Calderón stadium tomorrow after the clubs reached an agreement today. Luccin, who made 97 league appearances and scored eight goals in three seasons with Celta, will sign a four-year contract with Atlético.

'Delighted'
"I have been waiting for this moment for two months," he said. "I always said that I wanted to come here and I have done all I possibly could to get this move. I am delighted and can't wait to start."

Coach's verdict
Atlético coach César Ferrando said of the former Paris Saint-Germain FC, Olympique de Marseille and FC Girondins de Bordeaux player: "He is a player with great technique, who is able to patrol large areas of the field. Someone with his quality and experience will give the team an extra edge."

Central pairing
Luccin is expected to link up with Gonzalo Colsa in the Rojiblancos' central midfield after the latter player returned from a season's loan at RCD Mallorca to sign an extended contract until June 2008.

Famous five
The Frenchman is Atlético's fifth summer recruit following the arrivals of Leo Franco, Luis Perea, Antonio López and Pablo Ibáñez. His new club are on course for a UEFA Intertoto Cup final place after winning 3-1 at OFK Beograd of Serbia and Montenegro in their semi-final first leg last night.
