An unusual meteorite found in Algeria in 2012 has given scientists information about volcanic activity on Mars, and it's not like anything we've ever seen on Earth. Analysis of the 6.9-ounce meteorite by an international team of scientists, has helped determine that sometime in its 4.5 billion-year history, Mars had a single volcano that erupted continuously for more than 2 billion years.

New Supermassive Black Hole Observation --Reveals How They Were Able to Grow a Billion Times Larger Than Sun

Astronomers have concluded that supermassive black holes can grow, from tidal disruption events (TDEs) and perhaps other means, at rates above those corresponding to the Eddington limit has important implications. Such rapid growth may help explain how supermassive black holes were able to reach masses about a billion times higher than the sun when the universe was only about a billion years old.

In 2015, filmmaker Sam Cossman took a team the edge of Ambrym Volcano‘s Marum Crater located along the Ring of Fire in the Vanuatu Archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, home to one of only seven permanent lava lakes in the world to 3D map its 7.5-mile-wide (12-kilometer) caldera and the spectacular lava lake at its core. As expedition leader, he assembled an all-star team—including climber and photographer Brad Ambrose, videographer Conor Toumarkine, drone expert Simon Jardine, and geobiologist Jeff Marlow.

Elliptical Galaxy Observed Ten Times Size of Milky Way --"An Ancient Prodigious Star Factory"

Galaxies today fall roughly into two categories: elliptically-shaped collections of reddish, old stars that formed predominantly during a period early in the history of the universe, and spiral shaped objects dominated by blue, young stars. The Milky Way is an example of the latter, a spiral galaxy actively making new stars.

“The idea that the speed of light could be variable was radical when first proposed, but with a numerical prediction, it becomes something physicists can actually test," said professor João Magueijo at the Imperial College London. "If true, it would mean that the laws of nature were not always the same as they are today.”

On 17 November 2016 ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and Roscosmos commander Oleg Novitsky blasted into space from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard their Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft safely heading towards the International Space Station for docking. French musician Yuksek’s ‘Live Alone’ video has just launched this morning on the European Space Agency website and features previously unseen footage from Pesquet’s current Proxima space mission.

NASA --"Space Flight Changes Structure of the Human Brain" (VIDEO)

“For decades, scientists working with astronauts have known that spaceflight has an effect on neurological systems,” said Mill Reschke, chief scientist for NASA Neuroscience. “Scientists also have believed the changes we observe in spatial orientation, balance and disturbances in the control of eye movements needed to maintain clear vision when the head is moved must be the result of structural changes in the brain."

Red Giant Relic Observed --"The Violent Death of a Twin of Our Sun"

The Calabash Nebula, pictured above taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope is a spectacular example of the death of a low-mass star like the sun. This image taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope shows the star going through a rapid transformation from a red giant to a planetary nebula, during which it blows its outer layers of gas and dust out into the surrounding space. The recently ejected material is spat out in opposite directions with immense speed -- the gas shown in yellow is moving close to one million kilometers per hour (621,371 miles per hour).
