Alaskans Promoting Physical Activity

Alaskans Promoting Physical Activity (APPA) was a coalition representing a wide variety of organizations interested in promoting the benefits of regular physical activity. The mission of APPA was to increase physical activity among Alaskans by influencing policies, physical and social environments, and personal behaviors through health promotion, education, and advocacy efforts. The goal of APPA was to improve health, fitness, and quality of life for all Alaskans.

As the evidence-base for obesity prevention grew and prevention work focused on childhood obesity prevention, the members of APPA decided to disband and support the efforts of the Alaska Alliance for Healthy Kids.

The State of Alaska Obesity Prevention and Control program continues to embrace the mission of APPA by implementing evidence-base strategies to increase physical activity in childcares, schools, and in the community. The program also provides education to the public through its Play Every Day campaign.
