Triathlete succumbs to injuries

AUSTRALIAN triathlete Mark Pringle has died, more than five weeks after a mysterious road accident in the United Arab Emirates.

Pringle, 50, is understood to have lost his fight for life last Sunday, after his blood pressure dropped rapidly a day earlier, at Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi.

He had been in a coma for 39 days. His wife, Jennifer, was at his bedside when he died.

Pringle (pictured) was found unconscious by the side of the road, next to his bike and helmet, on July 24. He had been on a morning ride with two friends. Witnesses had seen him standing beside his bike. Police have not ruled out the possibility he was hit by a car.

Pringle would have celebrated his birthday this week.

“I don't have any relief from mental pain because I don't know what happened to him,” his wife told The Sun-Herald soon after the accident.

A memorial service will be held at North Cronulla Surf Club on Tuesday at 10am.
