Why should I alone be blamed, asks Kiku

IANS | Jan 14, 2016, 05.05 PM IST
Actor Kiku Sharda, who was arrested for impersonating godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, believes that it was incorrect to "solely" blame him for the act.

"It was a dance performance. We had a choreographer. If we knew it's going to hurt sentiments, it could have been avoided. Maybe my knowledge was less, I wasn't sure that it would become this big. It could've been shot and edited. Why should I be solely blamed?" Kiku said in an interview to news channel CNN IBN.

Kiku was booked and arrested by Haryana Police following a complaint that he spoofed Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of Dera Sacha Sauda sect. He was sent to 14 days' judicial custody on Wednesday by a court in Haryana's Kaithal town, hours after his arrest here.

The 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' star was on Wednesday evening released on a surety bond of Rs.1 lakh by the Kaithal court.

However, he was arrested again by Haryana Police, this time from Fatehabad district (near Hisar), for the same offence.

He is likely to be presented before a Fatehabad court on Thursday.

The actor feels if he had received the court summons in advance, "things would have been different".

"On the day of my shoot in Mumbai, where I was shooting for 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'...the cops come and tell me that there is a warrant and we need to move and go to another city in another state so, that is too sudden and harsh. If I had received the summons before, things would have been different," he said.

Kiku was accused by sect follower Uday Singh of dressing up like Gurmeet Ram Rahim and mimicking the self-proclaimed godman.

"In the show ('Jashn-E-Ummeed'), he (Kiku) was shown dressed up like our respected guruji. He was shown with liquor and dancing with two girls. He did a mockery of guruji. Whosoever saw it, their feelings were hurt," Uday Singh told media persons.

The show, in which Kiku dressed up like the sect chief, was aired on December 27.

Poonam molested by comedian? Poonam Preet was recently in Kathmandu for a New Year event when she had an unpleasant experience. The TV actress was allegedly molested by comedian and singer Raja Sagoo who was also part of the event. While Poonam maintains that Raja tried to kiss her as he was drunk, the latter says that nothing of the sort happened between the two. Poonam says, “After the show, my manager Sheetal, Raja and I were at the dining table where Raja showed pictures of his daughter and said that his wife was pregnant. After the dinner, we were playing at the casino. I was feeling uneasy at the time since I had viral fever. I told my manager that I was done for the day and I’d be going back to my room to sleep. My manager asked me if I wanted her to accompany me to my room. I asked her to stay at the casino. Hearing this, Raja said that he was also done and he’d be coming along since he too wanted to go back to his room, and so he accompanied me. While walking back to our respective rooms we passed through an empty lobby. He suddenly pulled me towards him and tried to kiss me. I was in complete shock. It was completely unexpected from a person who’d just spoken about how much he loved his daughter!” Poonam adds, “The very moment he pulled me towards him and tried to kiss, I kicked him hard and ran since I was shocked and couldn’t understand or come to terms with what had just happened. But I also turned back and abused him. I rushed back to my manager to tell her about Raja’s behaviour. He followed me, blocking my way, begging for mercy. He held my hand to stop me from telling people about his cheap act. I shouted out loud and asked him not to touch me again or I would call the police. I told my manager about the incident.” Poonam has no plans to file a police complaint at the moment, but if things go out of hand, she says she would approach the police. However, Raja dismisses the incident as a publicity stunt. He says, “My wife is pregnant and I haven’t even told her about the incident. She will be shocked. I will never do such a thing. I don’t want to gain publicity out of such things. “

According to sources, the actress complained about the issue to the production house, but initially they didn’t take any action against the person. But after Ratan refused to report to the sets for the shoot, the channel had to intervene and the lightman was sacked. While the producers have been denying the incident, Ratan told us, “I don’t want to talk much about it. But then again I don’t want to stay quiet about it. There is no smoke without fire. I am strong enough to handle such things and in case I feel that I require media’s help, I will call them. I really don’t know who leaked this news. I haven’t spoken to anyone about this. I don’t want this to seem as if I am seeking some publicity.” We asked Ratan whether she has faced any such incident on the sets of any of her previous shows and she said, “I have never faced such a thing in the industry before. Being a girl, I have faced such issues on the road and kai baar joote-chappal khole hain. Any girl would get upset by such things. But main upset hoke ghar nahi baithungi. I know mujhe uske saath kya decision lena tha aur kya karna tha. I wanted it to look like an example ki agar 75 logon ki unit hai, toh baaki ke logon ko pata hona chahiye ki unke saath kya hoga agar unhone aisa kiya.” She added, “Production house ne norm ke tahat kiya jo unhe karna chahiye tha. They didn’t go out of the way but they did what was required. Whatever stand I had to take, I took it. When such an incident happens, you think, ‘How could this happen to me?’ Lekin theek hai, main usse bahar nikal chuki hoon. Maine ussi samay bola ki main shoot nahi karungi. Uss din maine shoot nahi kiya. I returned to shoot only after things were sorted.” Ratan has done theatre in Delhi for two years and she said that she always used to speak up whenever someone misbehaved with her, “Dilli mein bahut kaand huye hain. Main police station tak logon ko lekar gayi hoon. I have never been that girl who stays quiet and acts like a bechaari. Maine ladkon ko Dilli mein peeta bhi hai, pitwaya bhi hai,” she told us.

The real reason why Naman Shaw is single: Actor Naman Shaw, who was recently seen in Piya Rangrezz, is finding it difficult to settle down in life. He feels it’s the financial insecurity of his profession that wards off women. He says, “I have not consciously wanted to stay single. My profession comes with its share of insecurities, be it financial, or the fact that we are always gossiped and written about. It’s not like this doesn’t happen in other fields, but because it’s glamour, we come under the spotlight, so it is difficult to find a match. I have also been sceptical about choosing the right girl. However, now I want to tie the knot.” He also has a unique view on love. “It is not about remembering dates and giving heart-shaped balloons. Love is when you communicate through silence. It is finding bed tea next to you and hiding the towel when the other person has gone for a bath. It’s what makes you smile,” he adds. So what kind of marriage he will prefer — arranged or love? “It doesn’t matter as long as I like the girl. But I need to know her well enough before I take the plunge,” he signs off.
