Please note: if you have student loans, you may be eligible to get your federal loans forgiven. If you have not yet transferred your credits to "a comparable educational program at another school," then you are now eligible to have your federal loans forgiven by the US Department of Education.

1. Make a list of potential transfer schools

It is important to find an accredited university to transfer your existing credits to and complete your degree. Each university has its own policies and procedures related to the acceptance of credit earned at another university. You are going to want to make a list of schools that you are interested in transferring to. 2. Familiarize yourself with the credit transfer process and identify residency requirements

After you have identified the universities that you would like to potentially transfer to, read the frequently asked questions document below. These are questions that you are going to want to get answers for from the universities' admissions staff. Different universities are going to have different answers to these questions and it is important to understand the extent to which a university will accept your transfer credit. It is also important to understand the university's residency requirements as this will affect your graduation date. A "residency requirement" is a set amount of credits a student must complete at a university in order to complete a degree.

3. Identify a transfer school

Reach out to the admissions staff at schools on your list and begin to ask the questions in the frequently asked questions document. Explain your situation to them and be sure and get clear, definitive answers to your questions. Once you understand how credit transfers, residency requirements, and degree requirements will impact your degree path at each university on your list, you can make an informed decision about which university to select.
