Residents of the area said that fifteen people were used as human shield during the carnage. In February 2004, during the four-day-long crackdown, Indian army killed 5 villagers and injured over a dozen by showering bullets on the villagers it used as human shield during a clash with Mujahideen. »

The troops killed the youth during a siege and search operation in Amargarh area of Sopore. The operation continued till reports last came in. Earlier, two Indian policemen were injured in an attack in the same area.

Indian police claimed that the youth were militants and were killed in an encounter with the troops.

Srinagar, January 25 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, five Indian soldiers were killed while four others went missing after a snow avalanche hit an army camp in Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district.

Five bodies have been recovered so far, said an Indian official, adding that a rescue operation is continuing to look for any survivor.
