A new house for a retiring couple located on a beach foreshore which enjoys panoramic views of the Brighton marina and Port Phillip Bay beyond. The new building is anchored to the site with solid off form concrete and exposed timber adapting a robust expression of the local marine architecture the pier, wharf and sea baths nearby. The ground floor living room is deep set within an open concrete structure to allow for protected views from the prevailing weather and westerly sun. The upper floor contains the main bed room areas with an overhanging and undulating roof suggestive of the distinctive silhouette of the You Yang ranges which breaks the horizon view across the bay to the setting sun.
