The District Court is an intermediate trial court placing it between the Magistrates Court and the Supreme Court in the Western Australian courts hierarchy.

The District Court deals with serious criminal offences including serious assaults, sexual assaults, serious fraud and commercial theft, burglary and drug offences. The District Court also determines civil claims up to $750,000 and has unlimited jurisdiction in claims for damages for personal injury.

Notice to Practitioners - Circuit Hearings

The Court presently conducts circuit trial listing hearings (TLHs) by videolink (Albany, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, South Hedland and Karratha) or telephone conference (Broome, Derby, Kununurra, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Bunbury and Busselton).

District Court expands Electronic Lodgment-CIVIL
As from 4 July law professionals have been able to electronically lodge almost all District Court civil documents by logging on, from any location, to the WA Courts portal. [29/07/2016]

District Court - eCourt Project
The District Court wishes to inform its customers of change to the way District Court will conduct its business in the civil jurisdiction of the Court. The Department of the Attorney General has developed an IT strategy to implement an eCourt plan in WA courts. [18/03/2016]
