Stop killing your apps randomly. Start monitoring them with Watchdog.
You don't need a task killer. But you do need a way to make sure a background app doesn't lose control and eat up all your CPU. Watchdog monitors your apps and alerts when one loses control, allowing you to kill just that single app. Killing apps blindly can cause them to stop working as designed, and most app developers won't even take a bug report from you if you are using a task killer!
From Android 2.2 on, the kill command works only on background apps, and they will likely restart immediately. Watchdog removes the app immediately from the list, since there isn't feedback about whether it was successful. Having lots of apps running doesn't hurt your phone at all unless they are doing something. In fact, killing an app and having it immediately restart simply consumes your phones resources. If you just leave the apps running, they will start immediately when you want to go back to it.
The paid version has all the features of the lite, removing the ads, while adding a “blacklist” feature. This allows you to pick a single app that is constantly misbehaving and assign a CPU % threshold to it. When that app exceeds the threshold, it will be automatically killed.
So stop blindly killing all your apps; be smart by managing them instead. Good for all versions of Android.
NOTE: There is an Android issue where Watchdog might crash upon launching after an upgrade. It seems to be related to the upgrade of the app while the old version happens to be executing in the background. It doesn't affect your phone's operation at all. If this happens, re-launch and goto the menu and hit restart for proper monitoring.

Excellent excellent app This makes managing app in your background processes so much easier. Definitely no need for a task killer, a task killer will only empty out your RAM and automatic updating will refill the RAM. Refilling the RAM uses CPU which in turn uses more battery. Other task killers really did no difference of battery saving, this one gets results. This helps you manage your apps by monitoring their CPU usage, much better approach. And if something is using too much of the CPU and you know it doesn't need to be running you can set the app at 0% CPU threshold to shut down that app, kind of like a task killer. I love the paid version with blacklist and whitelist enabled

Buyer Beware! Uninstalling! Disappointed to say the least. I purchased the app and it crashes sometimes 5+ times a day! Sent in tons of crash reports to the developer but never get any response. Should never have purchased the app considering it is not actively updated/maintained. Google should be pulling paid apps from the store that are not actively maintained!

paul thanx zomut, this is the best app on android for managing ur apps. if anyone can't understand it then go to website and it's all in black and white. my battery and phone works sweet all the time. don't kill those apps, just manage them. beta than juice defender

Doesn't do anything I downloaded this to help me figure out which apps are killing my battery. But it doesn't do anything. And when I click the real time tracking it always unchecks it and does nothing. Im running Android M on a 6P. There's no indication this app needs root privileges. I think users should be warned if this is supported on certain Android versions. Especially if it's the paid version. Very disappointed.

So far so good Early days having only been using the app for less than a week. But already, I'm very pleased with everything. My days of randomly killing "suspicious" apps with equally dodgy apps are over. The clear message is to let Watchdog and Android work closely together in harmony!
Galaxy Shame on you Zomut! I bought this app because of all the great reviews, but it turns out that I was duped. After doing some research, I learned that the developer abandoned this app in 2013 and without updates it doesn't work on newer devices such as marshmallow. They abandoned it but are still collecting money from unaware consumers. They won't even respond to anyone's emails. It's theft in my opinion!

So good I paid for it Watchdog has alerted me to the extremely underhanded processes of many of my apps. I CONFIRMED that some apps like to take your location/information and use your camera at will. Watchdog keeps those sketchy apps under control.
The real way to boost android performance This app is spectacular. Task managers can only do so much, while this tasks a look at CPU usage and shows you which apps are draining your phone. Totally worth the money and works great with Greenify.
Doesn't track after a reboot I like the app interface, but unfortunately, I have something that is misbehaving in such a way that the only solution is to reboot the phone. But after that, the app just shows everything being fine, since near as I can tell it does not track it's alerts across reboots. If it does, than it's just not noticing the problematic app or service. I sent an email to the developer, but I got no response. Overall, this is a bit of a disappointment.
Very informative and useful I didn't know how memory usage operated until I installed Watchdog. I have a much better understanding of how apps are placed in memory but may not be running. It is only when the CPU is being used that the phone's performance is negatively impacted.
Fixed me! Battery life on my Note 3 had slowly shrunk over time from days to just hours by constantly using other app killers, and as time went on, that just made it even worse. Seems like Watchdog takes a couple weeks of running on your phone to work it's magic, but now that it has, my battery life is nice and long again, and bonus, Watchdog keeps my phone running smoothly. Love. Get. Install. NOW!
Intelligent app manager Wd-lite flagged a couple of CPU hungry apps (samsung) which i was at a loss what to do about. Then realised the pro version's black list was just the trick I needed. Customisable too. Seems you can uninstall wd-lite as pro version is a stand-alone app.
Showed me why my phone was slow! Highly recommend! Your CPU us more important than your memory usage! Highlighted the apps dragging my performance down immediately, allowing me to fix the issues. Before this app it would have taken me 5 mins to Swype this text you're reading instead of 30 secs!
Great app. Really useful programme. Let's me know if an app is playing up. Only one programme so far called Android Media Process. Unfortunately it's part of the phone system so there's nothing I can do about it except wait for it to calm down. At least with Watchdog I know what's causing my phone's playing up.
Overdue update /improvenent Smart app from a very resourceful dev. Could you include display available RAM as an option in the widget or notification bar? Or display CPU in the task bar in place. That dog icon doesnt resemble the famous dog 'Pudsey'.
This is great! I've already noticed a difference in my battery life. My galaxy 3 was draining in less then a day, but I'm a pretty heavy user. This doesn't seem to be draining my battery, like other task killers/managers. I can't stand the apps that come with the phone, at least with this, I can blacklist them. Things run a lot more smoothly. It's a relief because I paid for this app and I hate paying for one of these and finding out its crap. This was a good investment :-)
What? Not sure what it is supposed to be doing??? Unaware if it is working or not! Is it me? I paid for pro version! Hope you can help me out or refund me if not comparable?? ************UPDATE!!****** OK, it's actually kind of spooky! This is the first app I have EVER had that has no extra crap, no settings or life or death decisions to make with settings, and I still HAVE NO CLUE what your app is doing, BUT since I installed . Apps, loading, and my phone in general is working better! You guys are geniuses!
Works okay... I think(?) I'm not really sure what it does or what it's supposed to be doing. I get an occasional alert. I have a cleaning/boosting app and I'm not sure if I need this one. Doesn't use up much space, so I'll probably keep it.
S2 on resurrection Rom Task killing is bad for your android so get this. It doesn't use any battery life and alert limits can be raised/lowered. Does what it should, when it should. Showed me just how much work the pre-installed crapware made my phone do, so rooted and flashed new rom and now my phone is a starship, many thanks devs
What's up? Upgraded to the latest version of Android. Watchdog now only sees itself. Not all that useful. I've uninstalled until it stops staring at its navel. Nexus 5.
Once Great I have upgraded my software on my Samsung Galaxy S6. Watchdog is not showing any apps running at all besides itself. WTF? It used to be great, but now it's useless.
Great. Have used this on all of my phones and tablets. The must have app for any type of user. I love thee blacklist function for troublesome apps that take a lot of memory like Facebook. Will continue to use. Keep up the good work.
Doesn't load, keeps shutting itself down I have tried rebooting, reinstalling and it doesn't work. I have paid for this version with same issues. Please fix
Iocean X7a. Paid but antique now. Cannot remember my default. Didn't notice "Android Firewall" was installed. Will seem to close apps, which might restart immediately.
Works great! Can you please add more polling interval options? 1 minute is too long and 10 seconds is too short. I also have some ideas to improve the app: since some apps (especially cheap games) have background services running 24/7 that never really need to be there, this app should have an option to automatically kill unwanted background services. Also, a "restart if misbehaving" feature would be great since there may be apps I want to keep open as long as they aren't screwing up.
Great Monitoring App This application has saved my battery from an early death more times than I can count at this point. It is extremely stable and has a very small footprint itself. I can't imagine using my phone without this! Most of the default settings worked for me, but it is also pretty customizable which I appreciate :) .
Perfect companion For any smartphone. I would like a request. Please add Global Blacklist CPU threshold that automatically kills app excluding app in whitelist. I could set blacklist thresholds for all of them but i'm too lazy and I constantly switching different custom ROMs. Perfect new feature I'd say myself.
Not working anymore in Marsmallow :( Was great in Android 4.x and 5.x, but unfortunately doesn't work anymore in Android 6.x. App not updated since 2012, so seems to be dead... What a pity!
Great software Acting in the background it sniffs out excessive cpu use and alerts you. You can ignore, whitelist or blacklist an offending app. As a result many bloatware apps can be killed as soon as they rear their annoying heads. This is a 'have to have' app for me.
Very useful! I kept having problems with AP Mobile widget, it kept using CPU even though I never use it. Now blacklisted, problem solved!
Very nice program! Its approach to task management fits the Android system perfectly. Use it all the time to see whats using CPU and white- and blacklist where need be. Or occasionally kill a task directly.
Huh? I have no idea what this app is supposed to do. I've had it for 2 days and it hasn't shown me one thing.. No hekp menu, settings or anything.
Best "app killer" Android does not reccomend blindly killing apps when ram is low. Android has a system for that. But when an app misbehaves and takes over CPU Watchdog is just the thing to reign it in and keep your Android running smoothly.
Stopped working Not sure what happened but it always shows 0% resources and like 200+% idle. Still giving it 3 stars because it was a 5 star app before then.
Warns me of Apps hogging resources App runs quietly in the background and alerts when an app is hogging resources. Very useful for monitoring new apps, identifies rouges apps that quietly suck the life out of your device.
Must have. I used task killers until I got this. My battery is improved 20% and my HTC one runs smoother now. Best $4 you can spend in the play store.
This app was very useful for catching runaway processes back when my phone was running Kitkat. Unfortunately, under Marshmallow, Watchdog crashes very frequently. I see the app hasn't been updated in a few years.
Very useful This app allows me to uninstall apps and kill processes that the default Android utilities do not, allowing Gameloft games and other resource-intensive apps to run smoothly. Inspire HD.
Very useful app It's helpful for identifying and reigning in unnice apps -especially background tasks that only occasionally burn up your CPU ( so they show very low utilization in common average/total stats ). It's a bit heavy, itself, on resources to leave running when life is good.. For continuous/daily use, try both System Tuner Pro and Quick System Pro... All 3 Pro Apps are worth it.
Awesome I love this app. I've managed to eliminate three different apps that have been a severe battery drain on my phone. The settings are easy to understand and it just works.
