This is my "go to" bike shop in Phoenix. They do outstanding repair work and their shop is well stocked. They also sell used parts and bikes, which is really nice if you need a replacement and don't want to pay retail. Super knowledgeable, and very friendly staff. Whether you're a hardcore rider or just need to get a flat fixed on your kid's bike these guys will make you feel at home. I also love that they contribute to cancer research. This is the only shop in Phoenix that I will take my bike. Glad to have found these guys.
I normally do my own bike repairs but whenever I have something that's beyond my capacity bike wheel truing excetera I always take it to gray matter. No matter who helps me it's always great service and they throw on an awesome pub crawl every year that I never miss except 1 year but that made me sad to miss it. Also they have a cool selection of refurbished used bikes that are very affordable
Fantastic service, friendly employees and a great shop (not to mention the good cause). I brought my bike in - which was a mess from attempting to reassemble it after a move - and Dave did a speedy and brilliant job of getting it back up and running. This will be my new local bike shop.
Stopped in today on a recommendation from my coworkers to find a used bike. When I heard about Grey Matter Foundation, there was no doubt in my mind this was the place to go to find my new-to-me bike! This store was started by a young man named Kyle Claffey as a place to spread the love of cycling and also raise money for research on brain tumors. Kyle recently passed from this devastating condition, and his mission lives on as the store is now run by his family. The used bikes they sell are donated, and they fix them up and sell them at a great price, then donate the profits to the Barrow Neurological Institute. I was greeted warmly and Kyle's dad immediately found me the exact kind of bike I was looking for! They are going to put new tires on it and give it a tune-up before I pick it up tomorrow. I am so excited! The store has all kinds of bikes- road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, kids bikes, I even saw some unique bikes like a tandem! They also have parts and a bike shop if you need a tune-up. Also, If you have a bike you aren't using, donate it here so it can benefit a good cause instead of collecting dust in your garage or making you a few measly dollars on craigslist. Great place, great people, great mission. So glad I found this place.
Awesome store, awesome staff. Came in for pedals and grabbed some used ones, super cheap. Thanks again!
Incredible bike shop and for a great cause. I went in to purchase my first bike in years just for cruising around. David was incredibly helpful to me and found the perfect bike for me at a great price. Not only was his service excellent but the profits from the purchase go to support the Barrow Neurosurgical clinic. Could not be more pleased with the entire experience. If you're in the market for a new or used bike check it out!
Great store with cheap used bikes at unbelievably low prices, and the $$ go to a good cause, but wouldn't recommend them for tune-up or repair. Parking near the store is almost impossible, and I ended up taking my work bike back as the tune-up wasn't completed correctly. Still had to finish the job myself.
Walked in to buy a bike. Three guys were working in the store, all watching TV. Not one could tear themselves away to see if they could help. Maybe this store needs to be "for profit".

New/Used Bicycles and Parts
Established in 2014.
This Bicycle Shop was started by Kyle Claffey, who was fighting brain cancer. It was his dream the have his own bicycle shop. He lost his fight after 5 years in May of 2014, just a month before opening GMF Bicycle Shop. GMF (Grey Matter Family) Bicycle Shop is Non-Profit and provides funding for Barrow Neurological Institute to help brain cancer research. The shop is run by Kyle's twin brother David and their father, Michael. GMF is a full service shop, from flats to complete overhauls with a complete selection or accessories and parts. We also sell new and used bikes. Our used bikes come from donations that we refurbish. We are always looking for donated bikes. If you have a bike or know someone who would like to give their bike a new home, bring it by or call us and we can come pick it up. We look forward to meeting you!
David is the President of GMF Bicycle Shop. After his twin brother, Kyle, passed away from Brain Cancer, he continued to run the shop in honor of him. David previously worked at a bicycle shop in Central Phoenix since he was 15 years old. David is an avid cyclist from road to mountain bikes, you will see him out there pedaling!
