Star Wars cookies Thank you for all your interest and kind words. My son, friends and family were pleased, so I was pleased with how it turned out. As promised: Instructions I wanted to make a galaxy/space cake that was space-y on the outside, but also space-y on the inside. I could not find a recipe so I had to improvise. Step 1 - the planets For this cake you'll need a white cake recipe. I did this because you want to have true colours and white galaxy/milky way swirls, rather than yellow tinged. Make white cake mixture and separate into five parts. I wanted Earth, Mars and the sun, so I coloured each part a different colour green, blue, red, orange and yellow. In a cake pop mould, make as many Earth balls as the mixture allows by adding green and blue dollops and blobs. Repeat with red and orange (Mars) as yellow and red (the sun). Bake. Mine took 8 minutes each batch. If they come out funny or have an overflow crust you'll have to trim them back into nice ball shapes after they're cold. If you stop here, freeze them. If you're powering on, continue to next step. Step 2 - the galaxy cake If you froze the balls, take them out and let them defrost naturally as you start this next step. This is essentially a marble cake. Make some more white cake mixture (I doubled the recipe I used for the balls). Separate into four portions in the ratio 4:1:1:1. Get a whole lot of food colour. I used a Americolor electric blue, black (use both to colour the largest saved portion), violet (one portion), electric pink (one portion). Colour each part as described and leave one part white. Pour in the dark blue and evenly place purple and pink blobs around tin. Pour the white on top of the coloured parts. Then mix with a skewer in swirly figure-8s all over a few times. Bake for ten minutes. Take out and using a spoon, make a space for the planets and drop them in halfway down, covering and gently shaking tin to ensure full coverage. Bake for another twenty minutes. You could drop them in and cover them, but I worried they would burn from double baking. I also wasn't sure about them sinking to the bottom. Step 3 - decorate Decorate how you like. I did space things on the outside, but I've seen galaxy frosting out there which you might like also. Edit: I'm so happy that people like the cake. Here are some articles that have come out about it. If there are others, please let me know as I love hearing about it! http://www . delish . com/food/a51682/this-incredible-cake-has-a-hidden-galaxy-baked-inside/ http://mymodernmet . com/space-birthday-cake/ http://babyology . com . au/parties/wow-cut-amazing-galaxy-cake-find-entire-solar-system-inside . html http://laughingsquid . com/incredible-space-cake-featuring-a-beautiful-hidden-galaxy-inside-that-is-revealed-once-it-is-sliced/ http://www . froot . nl/posttype/froot/dit-is-pas-echt-spacecake-wacht-maar-tot-je-de-binnenkant-ziet/ http://hellogiggles . com/space-themed-birthday-cake-galaxy-inside/ http://indilens . com/280015-prepare-to-blast-off-to-the-coolest-galaxy-cake-ever/ http://www . boredpanda . com/space-planet-birthday-cake/ http://geekologie . com/2017/02/awesome-space-themed-birthday-cake-with . phphttp://www.neatorama.com/neatolicious/2017/02/21/Space-Cake-Has-Worlds-Inside/ http://www.foodiggity.com/a-cake-with-planets-in-every-slice/ http://www.thatsnerdalicious.com/nerd-cakes/this-cake-has-an-entire-universe-baked-in/ http://incrediblethings.com/food/this-space-cake-is-a-dream-come-true-for-space-and-cake-lovers/ https://uk.style.yahoo.com/space-themed-birthday-cake-galaxy-001813906.html http://thelightmedia.com/posts/50325-space-cake-with-a-hidden-galaxy-inside https://www.geeksaresexy.net/2017/02/23/bake-solar-system-space-cake/ http://technabob.com/blog/2017/02/22/space-cake/ http://theawesomedaily.com/this-space-themed-cake-hides-an-entire-galaxy-inside-that-reveals-itself-when-you-cut-it/ http://www.dirtydutch.com/bijzonder/space-cake-with-a-hidden-galaxy-inside/ Edit: My sister also bakes cakes, check her out on instagram (@blackbirdbaker)
