Gala held at the Great Hall of the People to celebrate Spring Festival

Top Chinese leaders attended an evening party at the Great Hall of the People on Wednesday in Beijing to usher in the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.

Military and civilian artists presented a night of variety ranging from Peking Opera and acrobatics, to a chorus and dance performances. All interpreted the close connection between the country's military and civilians through various artistic means.

Among those in attendance were President Hu Jintao and other members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

After the performance, China's top leaders went onto the stage to extend a festive greeting to the artists and the audience.
