Koli Fayaz's son enters underworld

BANGALORE: Like father, like son -- this adage goes well with the murdered don, Koli Fayaz alias Murgi Fayaz. Fayaz's youngest son, 18-year-old Pappu alias Amir Khan, has taken to crime eight years after his father's murder.

He is believed to have joined hands with Tanveer, his father's protege. Tanveer had given the police the slip and fled to West Asia, and is still believed to be holed up there.
Pappu was arrested last week for the murder of a rowdy, Aleem, who belonged to the gang headed by Ishtiaq Pahilwan, at present in Mysore jail.

With Fayaz's son entering the arena, equations are expected to change in the city's underworld and among rowdies of Shivajinagar, police sources feel. Several gang wars have taken place in the last few months between the rival Tanveer and Ishtiaq gangs, and there has been some intense cross-firing in the last two weeks.

The Tanveer gang first made an attack on Ishtiaq in the parking lot of Naga theatre. Ishtiaq survived the case of mistaken identity -- the gangsters shot and injured a Mumbai-based hotelier instead.

The Ishtiaq gang retaliated by attacking Khaleel, a key man of the Tanveer gang, near a bar in Wilson Garden. Aleem was part of the gang which attacked Khaleel, and was murdered in a counter-attack, police said.

The police are beginning to feel the heat. DCP (East) Jayaprakash V. Nayak has reactivated the anti-rowdy squad of east zone, which managed to nab Pappu, Tarkari Khaleel and other associates of Tanveer within a few hours of Aleem being chased and hacked to death in K.G. Halli last Monday.

To reduce friction in jails, the rival gang members have been accommodated in different jails. While Ishtiaq is at Mysore jail, his rivals are in Parappana Agrahara jail.

But the biggest loss for the police has been Tanveer, though they defend themselves, saying, "Tanveer is back in the country and we are looking for him."
