| | James Demery: l do remember the controversy concerning her record setting simul. l remember people questioning whether someone could play that many games that quickly. l was wondering if something happened between them personally that made him speak with such vitriol. |

Apr-23-15
| | HeMateMe: If Short's numbers are right, it is physically impossible for someone to play that many games against any serious opposition. as a grandmaster doesn't he have a right to call into question a chess related claim of another GM that is so obvious untrue? I would file Shorts comments under "brutally honest," but not "slanderous." |

| | James Demery: ln the article, if memory serves, he said something about there being a lot of Scholar's Mates. l dont remember seeing any of the actual games and their moves. |

Apr-23-15
| | HeMateMe: I remember one story about the event. There were a bunch of small children playing, and they would lose quickly and then just set up the board and play again. She played some individuals more than once. That really shouldn't be counted. Not that this is an important topic, anyway. |

"Classical games: Judit Polgar beat Nigel Short 8 to 3, with 5 draws." |

"Classical games: Judit Polgar beat Nigel Short 8 to 3, with 5 draws."> Cutting stuff, devere. I'll bet no one noticed <that> before. So, Judit Polgar has a plus score against Nigel, therefore...what, exactly? Short's argument is refuted? Suppose Kramnik (+14-0=11) had said it instead? http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... It would be exactly as true, or as false, as it is now. |

| | offramp: <keypusher> very well said. I like Susan, but people are going over the top! Here is a major question:
How many chessplayers have YOU [not you keypusher], yes YOU, any reader of these words, known in your entire life? Imagine someone said, "Alan, get me 1,000 people who can play chess in ten days time." I live in London, there are 10,000,000 people living here but I don't think I could get more than 50. |
|
Apr-23-15 | | Petrosianic: <keypusher>: <So, Judit Polgar has a plus score against Nigel, therefore...what, exactly? Short's argument is refuted?> No, that would be a Fallacy of Composition (or Division or both, depending how it's stated). But on the other hand, does Short HAVE an argument to refute? He's got a fact (the gender ratings gap), and a kind of claim (that the reason for the gap is in some way biological). But does he have an argument to support that claim? |

| | Sally Simpson: Hi. K.P.
"So, Judit Polgar has a plus score against Nigel, therefore...what, exactly? Short's argument is refuted?" What argument?
Nigel knows he has a minus score v Judit so why write an article claiming women cannot play chess. He didn't.
In a nutshell it reads that women are not attracted to chess like men because he thinks our brains are wired up differently. And on average (Judit is far above an average female chess player and should not really be included) men are better at chess than women. There is something about the game that attracts more men to it than women. That 'something' that bites into the man and the game becomes an obsession. That 'something' is for others to discuss and find. Nigel, not being a woman will not have the answer. We need a female non-player to tells us why. My wife is a genuine non-player. She does not even know how the pieces move. She thinks the game is stupid and comes out with comments like "look what it has done to you." ,all my chess friends are certifiable and after the one tournament she attended stated it's full of old men who have not grown up. (I'll get her to write the next NIC article.)
But what ever it is it won't be because women are any less intelligent than men. |

Jun-26-15 | | Olavi: In the bio, <Later that year, FIDE, in a controversial decision, granted 100 rating points to every female player except Zsuzsa.> is not correct. There were others, Cramling, Fischdick (I think) and a third one. They received 25-75 points, if memory serves me right. Besides, it's controversial whether the decision was controversial. |

| | cro777: Susan Polgar's coaching philosophy:
"Unlike some 'celebrity coaches' who go through the motion for the media or simply by lending their names, I actually spend a lot of time to dissect the strengths and weaknesses of each of my students. Then we work together to fix each weakness and enhancing their natural strengths." http://www.chessdom.com/interview-w... |

Apr-19-16 | | Fluffy: Happy Birthday to you, Zsuzsa. We have nearly the same birthdays although the same cannot be said for our chess playing abilities Heh |
