Gary’s Story

Expect the unexpected!  That could be the motto of Gary whose life changed dramatically after an accident and then changed again after training at St Loye’s.

Life seemed well for Gary with a happy marriage, plenty of work as a builder and roofer and still playing rugby albeit at the end of his career in the sport he loved.

An accident that broke his back changed all that in an instance.  He was confined to a wheelchair for 4 months, walked on sticks for another five months, was never likely to return to his former work and then went through a divorce.

Life looked pretty bleak but his friends and colleagues at his beloved Paignton Rugby Club helped him through the bad times before new doors began to open.

Gary, now 50, said: “I was unemployed and trying to find work or training.  I was introduced to St Loye’s and took a course in computer and integrated skills.  My aim was to train to enable me to work in Energy Assessment and it worked.

“I have now started work with the Energy Reports Company in Paignton and will be undertaking further training to obtain energy certificates enabling me to give reports on commercial premises with a view to helping them save energy.

“The help from St Loye’s was truly worthwhile and I cannot thank everyone enough for all their support.  What they did for me goes to show how much St Loye’s do to provide the training people really need.

“I’d like to thank everyone at St Loye’s who continue to help me no matter what the problem is.”
