Tom Murphy was born in Tuam, Co Galway, in 1935.
His works have been performed and broadcast widely in Europe and the US. He has worked closely with the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, and the Druid Theatre Company, Galway.

As Thomas Murphy he has published one novel, The Seduction of Morality (London, Little, Brown and Company, 1994).
A member of the Irish Academy of Letters, and Aosdána, His papers have been acquired by Trinity College Dublin.
He lives in Dublin.
