Victim Support awarded Disability-smart Award for best practice

Victim Support (VS) has been awarded the Disability-smart Know-how Award for best practice of disability awareness in the workplace.

Organised annually by Business Disability Forum (BDF), the Disability-smart Awards are given to organisations that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to employing, working with and doing business with disabled people, with special recognition for disability champions.

The ‘Know-how’ award is given to organisations who equip their employees with the skills to confidently interact with disabled people. VS was recognised for the use of its mental health toolkit, policy and advanced mental health training, which the charity delivers to its volunteers who work directly with victims of crime.

Natasha Broomfield-Reid, Senior Manager of Equality and Inclusion at Victim Support, said: “I am thrilled that Victim Support has won this award. Following the publication of our At risk, yet dismissed research with mental health charity Mind, we have worked really hard to enhance our policies, procedures and training so that victims with mental health issues receive an improved and more equitable service.”
