Michelle Gomez with Missy x 2! (Credit: Evolution PR)Following the launch of Character Options’ double helping of Exclusive Doctor Who Missy Figures last week, the actress who plays Missy, Michelle Gomez, has been photographed with her miniature alter egos.

The figures have whipped up storm with Doctor Who fans since they were revealed on Thursday 24th September by way of a virtual press conference hosted by Character’s product development director Alasdair Dewar. Missy is otherwise known as The Master; an arch enemy of the Doctor, but favourite with the fans who have been calling for a collector’s piece of her for some time.

When coming face to face with the figures whilst in New York last week Michelle said:
I absolutely adore my new figure! I can just imagine thousands of Missy’s taking over the world one very small step at a time

Al Dewar added:
Working with Michele Gomez has been so much fun; she was one of the best subjects we’ve ever scanned, patiently holding the perfect pose in both positions for a long period of time. We know that many collectors have been waiting to see if Missy would be included within our collection, it’s great for her finally come to fruition.

Bookmark and Share Lego Doctor Who?

2/26/2014 05:21:00 am - Reported by Josiah Rowe

Many fans of Doctor Who and the Lego building toy sets have long wished for Doctor Who Lego toys. Now, a post on Lego's Cuusoo crowdsourcing design site suggests that Doctor Who Lego sets may be coming soon.

Lego Cuusoo is a crowdsourcing platform where people can submit and vote on designs for Lego toy sets. If a project receives 10,000 votes of support, it is considered by a Lego review board, which decides whether the project is suitable to be produced commercially. Previous sets which have made it through this process include sets based on the Mars Curiosity rover, Back to the Future, and Ghostbusters (available this summer).

In the past, Lego Cuusoo proposals based on Doctor Who have been rejected due to conflict with Character Building's license to produce Doctor Who toys. Character has produced Lego-compatible Doctor Who building toys since 2011. It is not known whether Character's license has changed or expired, but today Lego posted the following on the Lego Cuusoo website:
Sometimes we have to turn down project submissions that refer to specific brands or licensed properties. We do this to avoid getting your hopes up for something we know we aren't able to make. In these cases, we already know the LEGO Group can't secure licensing rights to produce construction toys based on a particular brand or property, due to a conflicting interest with a third party.

If such a conflict goes away, we'll then be able to accept projects based on a particular brand or license.

...

Resolved Past Licensing Conflicts

We now welcome projects based on the following licenses that used to have conflicts:
  • Doctor Who - February 2014
Last updated February 25, 2014

This does not mean that Lego is definitely going to license and produce Doctor Who toys, but it does mean that they no longer consider it impossible.

The latest series of Character Building Doctor Who micro-figures features all 11 incarnations of the Doctor. Character have announced a special edition 12" Dalek to celebrate Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary.

Character: 12" British Icon Dalek (Credit: Character)For the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, what could be better for collectors than his ultimate foe in truly British styling; Character unveils its Doctor Who 12-inch British Icon Dalek

This ultimate Doctor Who collectable 12-inch Dalek has been produced exclusively in Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary year. Beautifully displayed in the Union Flag, it celebrates the Daleks as a British icon and is ideal gift for all Doctor Who fans. This limited edition free-wheeling Dalek features poseable arm, head and eye while us having the ability to voice 10 Dalek phrases with lights and sound FX.

The Daleks were created by the Kaled scientist, Davros as travel machines. Davros had deduced that the years of radiation and chemical poisoning from an ongoing war would lead his race to mutate into immobile organisms. The Dalek travel machines would house these creatures and allow the Kaleds to survive.

In the course of his experiments however, Davros deliberately removed what he considered to be debilitating emotions from the mutants and a force of evil was spawned!

The Doctor Who 12-inch British Icon Dalek will be available from late August. Suitable for ages 5 years and over it will be a must have for the many generations of fans that the Timelord has gained in the past 5 decades.

Bookmark and Share Character: 3.75" Figures released

6/07/2013 11:34:00 pm - Reported by Chuck Foster

Character have launched their new range of 3.75" figures:
From June 2013, fans can regenerate their treasured collections with a new Doctor Who 3.75 inch scale action figure. These highly detailed, realistic and poseable action figures include characters from Doctor Who Series 7 and are ideal to re-enact scenes from the series or create brand new time-travelling adventures. The first instalment includes six characters:

Character 3.75" Figures: Ice Warrior, Weeping Angel, Doctor, Clara, Cyberman, Dalek (Credit: Character)
Order from Forbidden Planet: Ice Warrior, Weeping Angel, The Doctor, Clara, Cyberman, Dalek

Explaining the change of figures from the previous 5" collection, Character said:
This new action figure collection is presented in 3.75 inch scale and many of you will be asking why the size of the figures has changed for this new series. Quite simply, with this being the 50th year of Doctor Who we wanted to refresh our product offering, and create something new and exciting for avid fans and children to collect. Our research also showed that many children today are collecting smaller figures and boy's action figures across the market are moving to this size. The new figures are compatible with other action figures and playsets in the marker, so kids can easily mix and match their play scenarios which are an integral part of the play pattern.

Of course there are many benefits too. The new collection is more affordable to the millions of fans, however more importantly absolutely no compromise has been made on the detail and quality.

In addition to the individual figures, Character have also created two "Timezone Playsets", themed around "Cold War" and "Dalek Invasion":

1983 - In the cold waters of the Southern Arctic Ocean, a Russian submarine returning from patrol takes on board a suspicious cargo, and the Doctor is reunited with one of his oldest foes. [order]

Bookmark and Share Character: Talking Dalek Figures

8/24/2012 09:18:00 pm - Reported by Chuck Foster

Character have released six new Daleks, based on versions from throughout the history of the series; each figure will feature contemporary speech and sound effects from their individual eras.

The eye catching Bronze Dalek is a timely release for 2012 but actually first made an appearance in a much loved 2005 episode. The equally current silver Daleks are more at home in the swinging Sixties, first being seen in the episode ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ and again at the height of another sporting celebration, during the 1966 episode ‘Power of the Daleks’.

The Daleks of the Seventies and Eighties have not been forgotten either. Two silver and grey characters emerge from the 1970s episodes ‘Planet of the Daleks’ (1973) and ‘Death to the Daleks’ (1974) while a gold and white fiend is recreated from the ‘Revelation of the Daleks’ episode in 1985.

The figures are now available from the usual retailers such as Forbidden Planet.

5/22/2011 12:28:00 am - Reported by Chuck Foster

Retailer Forbidden Planet continues its range of exclusive Character figures with the addition of a new set to their catalogue tying into Third Doctor adventure The Time Warrior:
In this exclusive set we present the Classic Sontaran: Commander Linx and his iconic Sontaran space ship along with the Third Doctor in Green Jacket and Sonic Screwdriver.

Journalist Sarah Jane Smith covertly gains access to a research centre where top scientists are being held in protective custody whilst UNIT investigates the disappearance of a number of their colleagues. The missing scientists have been kidnapped by a Sontaran, Linx, and taken back to medieval England, where they are working under hypnosis to repair his crashed spaceship.

The Third Doctor follows in the TARDIS, and Sarah Jane stows away. In return for shelter, Linx has provided a robber baron called Irongron with anachronistically advanced weapons to use in attacks on neighbouring castles.

The Doctor helps Sir Edward of Wessex to repel one such attack, then he and Sarah Jane conspire to drug the food in Irongron's kitchens so that the weapons can be removed while the men are unconscious. Aided by one of the kidnapped scientists, Rubeish, he then sends the others back to the 20th Century using Linx's primitive time travel equipment.

Linx shoots Irongron down and gets ready to leave in his repaired ship. Hal, one of Sir Edward's archers, fires an arrow into the vulnerable probic vent at the back of his neck, killing him. The Doctor, Sarah Jane and Hal escape just before the ship explodes, destroying the castle.
Purchase from Forbidden Planet

The set is due for release on the 1st June.

Earlier in the year Forbidden Planet released another exclusive Sontaran figure set, featuring the Fourth Doctor's encounter with Field Major Styre in The Sontaran Experiment - the image from that earlier set shows the variations between the two releases.
In this great gift set is the Classic Sontaran: Field-Major Styre and his iconic Sontaran space ship along with the Fourth Doctor in duffle coat and hat.

The Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith and Harry Sullivan arrive on a desolate and apparently deserted Earth to discover that a group of shipwrecked astronauts from a human colony, GalSec, have been lured there by a fake distress call. One of their number, Roth, tells Sarah Jane of an alien conducting gruesome experiments on him and his crewmates. The alien turns out to be a Sontaran, Field-Major Styre, who is compiling a report on human physical and mental capabilities as a prelude to an invasion of Earth.

The Doctor challenges Styre to unarmed combat. The Sontaran agrees but is quickly weakened in Earth's unfamiliar gravity. Harry meanwhile enters Styre's ship and uses the Doctor's sonic screwdriver to remove the vital terullian diode bypass transformer, so that when the alien returns there to revitalise himself he is drained of all his energy and destroyed. The Doctor sends a message to the Sontaran fleet, warning them that without Styre's report they cannot invade.
