Background and History
In its current form, MMU's most concrete formation date is 1970, when Manchester Polytechnic was founded. It was granted university status in 1992 and renamed Manchester Metropolitan University. However, the University's roots go back as far as 1824.Location and Accessibility
By rail: When you get to Manchester Piccadilly, get a further train to Manchester Oxford Road (this service runs very regularly and the journey only lasts a couple of minutes) and you will be there. There is also a regular bus service from Piccadilly to Oxford Road (bus numbers 41, 42, 43, 85, 111, 250 and 256) (get off at the BBC stop).
By road: MMU is easily linked to the M56, M60 and M602. There is multi-storey car parking available around the All Saints campus.

Using the UCAS tariff system, entrance requirements to specific programmes vary but examples include: BEng (Hons) Automotive Engineering: 280 points, including an A2 in mathematics plus one from a science, engineering or technology subject. BSc (Hons) Human Biology: 280 points, including 80 points (i.e. A2 grade C) in science, preferably biology or human biology. General Studies does not apply. BA (Hons) Retail Marketing Management: 280 points.Accommodation
University Accommodation
Incoming students have a choice of seven halls of residence across Manchester and four across the Cheshire campus. There is a choice between catered/self-catered and en suite/shared bathroom.Private Accommodation
Alternatively, you may prefer a flat/house share if you don't fancy University accommodation. The most popular areas for house shares are Fallowfield and Hulme, although there is a massive choice of areas to live in. Tuition fees vary depending on the course of study chosen and whether you wish to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Fees for overseas students are also likely to be higher than those for UK/EU students. Bursaries are available, based on household income. The system is linked to Student Finance England, meaning you don't have to apply for a bursary as your household income details (given as part of your student finance application) will be passed on to the University, who will then work out whether you are entitled to a bursary or not.

The MMU student union, on Oxford Road, is the hub of campus activity. There are a huge range of societies on offer from Shaolin Kung Fu to the Genesis Theatre so it is the perfect chance to try something new. The main student night is on Wednesdays and there are 16 sports halls across the whole University.Medical and Social Care
New students are required to register with a doctor on arrival, something which is guided by the University. Meanwhile, chaplaincies for every faith are available across the city.
What's on in the Area
Not much needs to be said here, because everything is going on. Quite simply, Manchester is one of the world's most exciting cities and has a vibrant arts and social scene, as well as a thriving gay district.

The University runs an extensive careers service which aims to improve the employability of its students, past and present. There is a strong focus on delivering skills and knowledge, whilst also providing a variety of courses, services, events and opportunities for part-time work.
