Resources

The CIJ provides a range of training material for journalists.

In this section you will find guidance on statistics for journalists, database research and online research as well as audio and video from the Summer School and other talks so you can catch up on any you missed.

If you wish to order copies of any of the CIJ or Logan handbooks, please complete this short form.
Our most recent handbooks include two in the Logan series: Information Security for Journalists (currently in a free ebook format) that helps journalists to protect themselves and their sources online, and DPA Without the Lawyer, which shows how the Data Protection Act can be used as a tool for journalists, and the CIJ handbook, The Investigative Journalist's Guide to Company Accounts that makes accounts accessible to journalists that don't have a financial background.

Audio and Video
We have published a selection of presentations from our annual summer schools and other talks held throughout the year.

Books
Many of the hardest-hitting investigations, even in recent times, have appeared in books. Here we will announce new books in investigative journalism (and related fields), as well as recommending pioneering and ground-breaking work which may not be available to view online.

Handbooks and Guides
These are less detailed than the Logan Handbook Series and give an overview of the subject. They are generally support material for courses or classes that we have run.

The Logan Handbook Series
These offer detailed guidance and information about specific subjects, from advanced internet research to libel, here you'll find everything you need to get your investigation off the ground.

Resource Handbook
In this section, you will find a list of links to training organisations, government sites, journalist networks and support organisations that provide information useful to investigative journalists.
