CORNWALL – The New York Military Academy will be closed through Wednesday this week.

It’s the latest twist in the school’s decision to file for bankruptcy.

In a letter to parents dated Friday, Superintendent Maj. Gen. William Beard said the closing was necessitated by “the extraordinary circumstances caused by the recent bankruptcy filing and the freezing of NYMA accounts and assets by the U.S. bankruptcy court.”

Students can return to the campus starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The letter did not explain what the three-day closing will accomplish.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by these unavoidable circumstances,” Beard’s letter said. “Please be assured that we remain fully committed to fulfilling our educational mission and caring for your children.”
