  • He also appeared to attack the integrity of Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, who is in charge of leading the investigation.

Helmut Kohl, Leader Who Reunified Germany, Dies at 87

Mr. Kohl was chancellor of the German Federal Republic for 16 years, from 1982 to 1998. He oversaw the reunification of Germany, but his career ended in financial scandal.
