Disorganized? Bags by the number a stylish solution

Digging around to find something in a bag can be frustrating and time consuming.

Amie Swan’s new line, OTG|247 (On the Go Twenty Four Seven), offers a stylish organizational solution.

Swan, of West Palm Beach, said she'd been using several different bags to organize the inside of her handbag and suitcase for years. However, she saw the need for a collection of coordinating bags that are fashionable and durable.

“The great thing about my bags is the inside of your bag looks just as nice as the outside,” Swan said. “But they’re functional, so if your makeup explodes or your child spills milk or something, you can hose it out when you get home.”

The bags ($45 and higher) come in 10 sizes, ranging from a 5-by-8 inch to an 18-by-11 inch that’s big enough to hold a pair of boxing gloves, and are also sold in sets. They are available in solid colors and fun prints that can be mixed and matched. The Nudie collection features a clear window on the front, so you can see what’s in the bag.

The line can be purchased online at otg247.com and locally at C. Orrico (336 S. County Road, 659-1284), Michelle Farmer (105 N. County Road, 659-4005) and The Breakers News & Gourmet (1 S. County Road, 653-6370).

Here are Swan’s recommendations for organizing for three common scenarios:

Travel

Swan suggests the #4 and #5 for going through airport security with liquids and cosmetics. The see-through Nudie collection was designed to replace Ziploc bags, she said.

The #8 and #10 are perfect for packing clothing, she said. Nudie is helpful when packing for kids, because they can see the items inside the bag. The #10 in the JW Blackout color, which is black with black hardware, is a great choice for men. It fits a whole ensemble, including a folded men’s shirt, rolled pair of pants and accessories such as belts, socks, cufflinks and shoes.

She recommends the padded #9 for techie stuff such as chargers and a laptop or iPad.

The beach

Swan uses the #6 for items such as sunscreen, bug spray and lip stuff and the insulated #7 for water and snacks.

Then, for each of her kids, she packs a #8 with items they’ll use at the beach such as rash guards, along with a change of clothes. “The nice thing is that when you’re done at the beach, you can throw your wet stuff back in there,” she said. The bag has a water-resistant lining that can be wiped clean.

Around town

To keep her handbag organized, Swan carries her necessities — phone, credit cards, cash and keys — in a #1 and everyday touchup makeup such as a compact, lip gloss and concealer in a #2. She uses the #4 for her sunglasses, earbuds, mints and checkbook. In her #5, she carries just-in-case items like tissues, hand sanitizer, sunscreen and Band-Aids.

Gray suit more than a work look — it can be part of your room design

I always loved the evocative title of the 1955 novel The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, written by Sloan Wilson and adapted a year later into a film starring the great Gregory Peck. I certainly recall the film and that gray flannel suit, but I don’t really recall if it was pinstriped or not. Do you? In any case, gray flannel and suiting material...
