Finds: All Brand Vacuums cleans up Palm Beach

All Brand Vacuums, a shop that sells and services vacuums, stands out in a town where repair shops are a rarity. But, it’s a perfect fit for customers.

Owner James Sim said people drop by to tell him they’re glad he’s so close. Sim decided to move his business to Palm Beach six years ago, after 28 years in West Palm Beach. He already had many customers here and wanted to provide good customer service to those who appreciate it, he said.

Some homeowners buy several machines, and those machines need cleaning and tune-ups. “Just like a car, you need to service a vacuum to have it work properly and last longer,” Sim said.

All Brand carries vacuums, sweepers and central vacuums from Miele, Sebo, Lindhaus, Dyson, Simplicity and more. Repair and refurbishing is offered for all floor cleaning equipment, including shampooers, floor polishers and steam cleaners.

The shop also stocks a wide variety of cleaning supplies, including Odorcide for deodorizing carpets and fabrics, a lambswool duster with 13-foot pole, Persil laundry detergent made by Henkel, Woolzies wool dryer balls and toilet bowl cleaners.

Here are some spick-and-span finds to help you get a jump start on your spring cleaning:

• The Original Bee’s Wax Old World Formula Furniture Polish ($19.99) works well on a variety of surfaces, including leather, glass, mirrors, stainless steel, granite and marble. Made with natural beeswax, it keeps wood from drying out and leaves no oil residue, wax build up or fingerprints. It has been recommended on Antiques Roadshow and named the best furniture polish by House Beautiful.

• DorMenica’s professional strength chandelier and fixture cleaner ($13.99 each or two for $11.99 each) cleans all crystal, porcelain, plastic and lacquered metal lighting fixtures. Spray on the ammonia-free formula, then let it drip dry for a “spot-free shine” without wiping, rinsing or buffing.

• Ram all-purpose cleaner ($29) cleans everything except silk, satin, opals and pearls, Sim said. Some cleaning uses include boats, carpeting, diamond jewelry, horse saddle blankets, ovens and upholstery. The strength of the fully concentrated formula can be adjusted to fit your particular cleaning job. It is non-toxic, non-abrasive, non-flammable and lightly scented.

• Simplicity Synergy and Synchrony upright vacuums ($899-$1,500) feature a patented Tandem Air System, which incorporates two motors — a direct air motor and a clean air motor — working together to give you the best of both worlds, Sim said. The direct air motor is effective for carpet cleaning, while the clean air motor provides strong suction for attachments and allows for advanced air filtration. The American-made machines are built to last with metal in high-wear areas such as the bottom plate and brushroll and Kevlar belts with a lifetime warranty. Simplicity also offers a full-size, cordless vacuum ($699) that is lightweight, whisper quiet and runs more than 60 minutes per charge.

All Brand Vacuums, at 350 S. County Road, No. 104, is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 967-3575 or visit allbrandvacuums.net.

Gray suit more than a work look — it can be part of your room design

I always loved the evocative title of the 1955 novel The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, written by Sloan Wilson and adapted a year later into a film starring the great Gregory Peck. I certainly recall the film and that gray flannel suit, but I don’t really recall if it was pinstriped or not. Do you? In any case, gray flannel and suiting material...
