An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is an encrypted machine image of a specific computer running a base operating system, configured in a specific way, and can also contain a set of applications and services for accomplishing a specific purpose. Jaspersoft's CloudFormation templates allow you to automatically create all of the resources needed for a Business Intelligence server deployed inside a VPC This includes defining the AMI to be used for your new EC2 instance, selecting the VPC and Subnet ID, defining an IAM Role to set the EC2 credentials, and defining policies to allow this role to auto-discover and connect to AWS data sources. Once the stack has finished creating all the resources in click the Outputs tab. Here you'll find information you'll need when you're ready to log into JasperReports Server: . Jaspersoft Cluster using RDS for metadata
*Not available in ap-northeast-2 and eu-central-1. This template generates an auto scaling, highly available infrastructure for your Jaspersoft Stack. The JasperReports Server metadata repository DB is launched in a separate RDS instance and gives you the option to enable an ELB (Elastic Load Balancer) with an auto scaling group in front of your JasperReports Server instances to provide a static endpoint (DNS Name/URL) for your cluster. In the case your JasperReports Server instance fails or stops responding, the instance will be replaced with a new one. The automatic high availability setup creates an RDS DB for the JasperReports Server metadata repository. Because the metadata RDS DB becomes a single point of failure, recent versions also add RDS failover and cache invalidation to help migrate from unresponsive nodes. This includes defining the AMI to be used for your new EC2 instance, an ELB, an autoscaling group with the max and minimum number of instance, an RDS Postgres instance, an IAM Role to set the EC2 credentials, and will define policies to allow this role to auto-discover and connect to AWS data sources. Product is excellent and really worth it.
However the AWS install places sample data and there is no way of finding out quickly how to remove it. Unfortunately this needs to be considered for production installs - and I am not prepared to buy support just to find out the method of removing demonstration data.

and easy to deploy.
Upgrades are a bit of a hassle though as you have to export your existing data, buy the new version, install a new instance, import your data, change your IP and shot down the old instance.

This product is great. I watched the getting started videos on the community site and in less than 10 minutes, I was connected to my RDS instance and creating reports. And, it only cost a couple of bucks. Amazing!

Very little support for AWS hourly
Installed an instance to test drive the product. Tried to connect it to our production database (which uses a forced SSL connection) and was unable to configure. Tried contacting support, and they informed me that they don't offer support with the AWS hourly product. After emailing twice and chatting with a sales rep, a support rep pointed me to the community forums and gave me a few things to try. Was not able to ever connect to the database, although I am sure it is possible. Was not able to actually evaluate the product due to configuration problems.
The long and the short of it is, if you need help getting up and running, they won't help you unless you have purchased a support contract.
