The Beginner's Game by Pafu [2] previous page: gameknot.com/fmsg/chess/2400.shtml didn't want to let it die ;) kai ? what more is there to say? clearly the beginner's system is an incredible inovatoin developed entirely by human thinking and has been proved time and time again on gameknot against nay sayers here who would believe otherwise.. if any of that's not true. plz correct me.. but i'm just assuming it all is from his rambunctious… More: backgammon online

looking for sicilian... I want to start playing the sicilian as black. I am looking for a variation that is flexible. I like to play openings where I don't have to commit to a plan too early in the opening. I prefer not to play something where there is too much theory. I prefer to play openings where creativity is possible. Is there such a system in the sicilian? I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but if you are looking for an opening… More: online chess

I now have a rating! Some game analysis... Finally! I have completed 5 games and gotten a rating! After 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw, my rating is 1556. How interesting, since when I joined GameKnot and RedHotPawn a year ago, I won my first 5 games on both sites, but GameKnot only gave me a 1521 rating and RedHotPawn a 1448 rating. I think my good ChessColony rating is due to raising my game against stronger opponents right from the onset. Here… More: backgammon online

Linares finale Kramnik wins Linares (hooray!) after another masterly 21 mover in which he bored Shirov into another draw. The ultimate winner of Linares, Kramnik, played a devastating seven games (count 'em!) into draws in under 25 moves. In the whole tournament there were 79% draws. For a few minutes I watched Kasparov on ICC try (actually try!) to beat Valejo Pons. I didn't even consider watching Kramnik's game, knowing exactly beforehand what… More: chess history

What is the most famous player you have met? I was wondering what is the most famous player people here have met in person, or even played against. Mine arent too impressive. Ive played against Peter Keevil, who is a master (I managed a draw, which was disappointing as I had the advantage for much of the game) and met Raymond Keene. My tops I've met Tiviakov (2631) many years ago; I've played (and lost to :) GM's Sergio Mariotti and Lexy Ortega.… More: correspondence chess

Sac'g the Queen, or other bits & pieces ... Last month I had three Queen sacs. Thought it interesting that only one of the three was a sac to mate. That's the blitz game I cant seem to find. But would like to show the other two from GK corr play. I particularly like the one that sac'd the Q defensively to obtain a pawn down "won" ending. Well I thought it was Won at the time. Now I see a move for better resistance. The other is also for play chess online…

Aggressive Tactical/Open lines for Black vs. 1.d4 What do you think? I want to try to avoid slower positional games and learn more slashing tactical games. How does black do this well against 1.d4 ?? I was thinking the Dutch ... but this is also a very positional game is it not? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Suggestion I also prefer open games, a good option against 1.d4 is the Budapest Gambit: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5! Check play chess online…

Program users I do not understand why people continue to delete threads about program users at GK? gooftrooper identified one, and his thread will soon be deleted. Most people here are against program use, but are unwillling to do anything about it. In most cases, program use cannot be established beyond reasonable doubt. But, when a player suddenly jumps from pathetic to class A or higher, this is the best evidence that can ever be offered. So, play chess online…

It might be cheating IF ... Greetings. Yes, its that time again. Time for another tongue in cheek, sort of, thread. [to ease the burden of other Chessers, who also find they live in "interesting" times]. Having just survived, after all else of this wondrous year, a 3 day bout of food poisoning, and discovering - I still HAVE a HEAD, which does sport a cheek, and contains therein a tongue ... well enough anatomy. Mathematical Bobby Fischer puzzle Bobby Fischer and his fiancee, Miyoko Watai, organized a "chess-couple convention" in Iceland. They invited 64 (married or engaged) chess couples from all of the world, and it was a great event for everyone. There was no tournament, but of course, a lot of games were played (and a lot of smalltalk as well). No one played a game with their (married or engaged) partner, no one played a game "alone", no one played play chess online…

The Latvian Gambit Hi everyone, Ion and I decided to run through the Latvian Gambit. I played the black pieces and lost in a game An Expert Lesson in Concentration of Forces. Stupid game stallers! board #2903599 This is my game against Tabsy. Now, I'm no Gary Kasparov, but this game has been dragging for over a month. I'm white, and I have 4 pawns, rook and king, against his lone king and rook and he has no pawns. There's no possible way he could of drawn/won this game since a long time coming. The problem is, it will still probably take 20 moves mathematicly to win this game via a checkmate, and if he takes a full 3 play chess online…

Best Chess Program? I was wondering what the best chess program was for a PC. I am an intermediate standard player currently 1490, but usually at around 1700 (where I've stalled out). I'll try to specify best: Ease of use, informative as to why it's making the move it is, and why your's is good or bad, decent graphics and interface, oh and doesn't crash or crash the PC. Also where is the best place to buy these programs? Thanks for any play chess online…

Chess equipment I found a great place to buy chess equipment, boards, pieces, bags, clocks, etc. www.cajunchess.com. I saved more than half the retail price. tip Thanks for tip, drgandalf. How was their delivery speed? I've had a book on order from Chess4less since Feb 5 and still haven't heard from them. I sent them an email last week and didn't even get an answer. For books I've found Chesscafe efficient, and of course Amazon. I've never tried play chess online…
