The benefits of contributing to open source depend on many circumstances. As an example, Adobe’s attitude toward open source has transformed as the company found new benefits to the work. Adobe has gotten much more involved in open source development, including several open source font families (with more on the way) as well as font-related software (with more on the way there too). This presentation will explore these developments and the kinds of benefit Adobe and its customers get from each, and will also announce some new pieces. Examples will include Adobe’s role in the world of HTML5 and mobile devices, and the different ways these lead to font-related projects.
