Welcome to Lily

lily is a "chat system" service which was implemented using LambdaMOO. RPI is the home of the first lily server, which was started up on March 3, 1994. It is the most recent in a series of CMC projects at RPI which go back to the early 1980's. lily has been available at RPI ever since then, and there are a few other sites which have set up their own lily servers. lily has been a very reliable service, with the production server being up for as long as 1233 consecutive days in a single run (at that point the eight-year-old battery in its UPS died, so the server lost power).

This is the wiki for lily. It is split into major sections of:

  • UserGuide - For new (or even longtime) users for lily, here is a good place to start.
  • AdminGuide - If you want to setup your own lily.
  • DeveloperGuide - If you want to get involved with lily server or lily client development.

This documentation will constantly (albeit slowly! smile ) evolve. To watch the action, you have a few resources:

Note that "lily" (as used for the name of this chat service) tends to be written in all-lowercase.
