The Central Karoo Local Development Strategy was carried out by Anix Consulting to develop a coherent local economic development (LED) strategy to address the developmental challenges in the Central Karoo District comprising the three local municipalities of Beaufort West, Laingsburg and Prince Albert. The LED took on a vision to create a better life for all Central Karoo residents through local economic development.
During the study, various stakeholder engagements were undertaken through a series of meetings and individual interviews. These included participation from the province, district and local municipalities; DEAT, PIMSS, PDG, IDT, Dept of Local Government & Housing, Beaufort West Tourism Bureau, and other interested parties.
The strategy was to be viewed as an evolving strategy, which must respond to developmental changes within the District.
As such the Central Karoo LED Strategy must be reviewed every three years, as new information becomes available and innovation in LED is advanced. Thus ensuring that the strategy is able to inform other living documents, such as the Central Karoo Integrated Development Plan, which will also be reviewed every three years.
