No.1-class auxiliary patrol boat
–
The No.1 class auxiliary patrol boat was a class of patrol boat of the Imperial Japanese Navy, serving during World War II. 280 vessels were planned under the Maru Sen Programme, however, during the war, Japan commandeered a large number of fishing boats for picket boat duty, with the primary duty of observing the sea to the east of the mainland. Their primary duty was to early warning of any U. S. Task Force attempting to close the Japan mainland, some of the picket trawlers accomplished their duties, unfortunately, it was typically by means of failing to respond to hails after encountering the enemy. The IJN decided to build a specialized picket boat to replace the number of vessels lost in the course of duty. The IJN intended to build 280 picket boats, however, the IJN was not able to procure sufficient wood to build the full number, the IJN built only 27 vessels before the end of the war. Those that survived war played a part in the post-war minesweeping effort in company with the No. 1-class auxiliary submarine chasers. 1948 Locomotive Exchange Trials
–
The 1948 Locomotive Exchange Trials were organised by the newly nationalised British Railways. Locomotives from the former Big Four constituent companies were transferred to, officially, these comparisons were to identify the best qualities of the four different schools of thought of locomotive design so that they could be used in the planned BR standard designs. However, the testing had little scientific rigour, and political influence meant that LMS practice was followed by the new standard designs regardless. However, the trials were useful publicity for BR to show the unity of the new British Railways, to record the locomotive performances, one of three dynamometer cars were included in the consist directly behind the locomotive. LMS engines operated over the Southern Region, where there were no water troughs, were paired with four-axled ex-WD tenders with water tanks. These were specially given LMS lettering for the occasion, similarly, ex-Southern types used elsewhere, were paired with ex-LMS tenders with water scoops. 2009 Monaco Grand Prix
–
The 2009 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race that was held on the 24 May 2009 at the Circuit de Monaco, in Monaco. The race, which was contested over 78 laps, was the round of the 2009 Formula One season. It was won by Brawn GP driver Jenson Button, with his teammate Rubens Barrichello second and this year a peace and sport initiative was introduced on this Grand Prix under the High Patronage of Albert II, Prince of Monaco. Sébastien Bourdais scored his last ever world championship points at this race and their Brawn GP team was leading the Constructors Championship with 68 points, second-placed Red Bull had 38.5, with their driver Sebastian Vettel third place in the drivers championship. Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton of McLaren was only in seventh place, Red Bull had a new two-tier diffuser ready for their RB5 car in Monaco, with chief designer Adrian Newey believing it could be a real benefit to the team. The Austrian drinks company team had won the 2009 Chinese Grand Prix and they had finished third and fourth in the previous race at Barcelona. Force India had prepared several important upgrades for the VJM-02, focused upon giving high downforce by modifying the front and this was to improve performance to score their first points, having not scored points before in a Formula One race. Most other teams, including Toyota and BMW Sauber, had modified cars to give good downforce and high mechanical grip, important for the Monaco circuits low speed and twisting, slow corners. In the run up to the race, Ferrari issued a statement declaring that Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula One World Championship, if the introduction of two different sets of regulations based on arbitrary technical rules and economic parameters. This was in reference to proposed regulations by the FIA World Motor Sport Council to introduce a Budget Cap for 2010 and these statements were the start of the FIA–FOTA dispute over the 2010 regulations. During the event, scenes for the 2010 film Iron Man 2 were shot, prior to the race the drivers complained about a billboard for Martini was distracting and in the line of sight of drivers as they exit Loews hairpin. The early practice sessions at Monaco are traditionally run on the Thursday of the week so that the roads can be opened on the Friday for public access. As such, two sessions were held on the Thursday, with the third on Saturday morning, followed shortly by qualifying. The Brawns continued their form in the session, placing third and fourth behind Nico Rosberg – who topped practice for the ninth time this season with a 1,15.243 –. A similar story held true for the Saturday session, with Jenson Button narrowly being beaten by Fernando Alonso in the Renault. The second session saw the departure of the two Force Indias, both Toro Rossos and Nelson Piquet, Jr. s Renault while Finlands Kimi Räikkönen and Heikki Kovalainen topped the timing sheets. Giancarlo Fisichella had two times disallowed for cutting the corners at the Swimming Pool Complex and Nouvelle Chicane, at the start, Button maintained his lead as Barrichello passed Räikkönen on the approach to the first corner. Both Brawn cars and Sebastian Vettel started the race on the super-soft tyres, in the late stages of the race, Heikki Kovalainen crashed out at the Swimming Pool, spinning and colliding with the barriers

2009 student protests in Croatia
–
Student protests in Croatia 2009 began at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb. On Monday,20 April 2009, the independent students initiative for the right to free education started an occupation of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, the occupation lasted for 35 days, until 24 May, when the students voted to suspend the occupation. The students were protesting the Croatian governments plans to reduce funding for higher education. The occupation in Zagreb spread next day to the University of Zadar and then to other cities in the country, including Split, Pula, Rijeka, during those 35 days, around 20 faculties and universities in eight Croatian cities were occupied at some point. During the occupation, everyone was free to enter and leave the faculty buildings, instead, students organized an alternative educational program, which consisted of lectures, public discussions, workshops, movie screenings and other events. Everyone was free to attend these happenings, whether they were students or not, only the regular classes were blocked – the administration, the library, the bookshop and other facilities within the faculty building were allowed to function as usual. The central organ of student decision making at the occupied faculty called plenum was set up, all decisions were made in a direct democratic manner, including whether the student occupation of the faculty should be continued or ended. The plenum was an assembly of all interested students and other citizens and everyone had the right to speak, all decisions were made by the majority of all present participants. The initial occupation in Zagreb ended soon after the university announced that sanctions would be imposed if the action were not ended. On 23 November the students occupied the Faculty of Humanities. After nearly two weeks, the plenum, voted to end the occupation on 4 December and they have received letters of support from individuals and organizations, both from Croatia and from abroad. Among those who have expressed support for their cause were Noam Chomsky, Judith Butler, the students of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb wrote a manual called The Occupation Cookbook in which they described the functioning of their faculty during the occupation.
