KSP: Man Dies After Being Attacked By Dogs

Posted: Updated:

MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)-- Kentucky State Police say a man was fatally injured by several dogs off KY HWY 1651 in Whitley City.

KSP says that around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, they received a report of a body in a yard on KY HWY 1651. Upon arrival, detectives discovered 79-year-old Vinson W. Tucker, of Stearns, dead.

Officials say when they reviewed surveillance footage from a nearby home, the video showed Vinson Tucker being attacked by several dogs. Eric Branscum, Tucker's neighbor, says his neighbor was just trying to take care of business at Mike Stephen's Wrecking/Tow Yard when the dogs attacked.

"Vinson had been out there several times at Mike's, him and Mike was pretty good friends, you know. And, just today Mike wasn't there and the dogs turned violent," Branscum mentioned. "The detective said that he had a dog on each arm and a dog on each leg."

Although KSP says that the dogs were located near the scene and put down, Branscum says that his neighbor deserves justice over his unexpected death.

"Mike is saying the dogs isn't his, but yet they stayed at his garage and he fed them and apparently they've been there for a long time because he had a bunch of puppies from them dogs at his house. I mean, it's hard to say you don't own a dog if you take care of it and it lives at your house, at your business," Branscum added. "I'd just like to see justice for his family... and dealt with accordingly."

LEX 18 stopped by Mike Stephens' home. He wasn't there for comment.

Tucker's body will be transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

The dogs will be sent to the State Veterinarian for necropsy and rabies testing.

KSP is still investigating.
