Roaming the floor, I had the opportunity to watch The Raincallers’ (Saiyan’s new team) first game at the Meadowlands. The gametype was Lockout Slayer and one would have expected The Raincallers to effortlessly dismiss 132nd-seeded Generation Four.

Two-thirds of the way through the match, however, The Raincallers had only managed to build a scant 34 – 32 lead over the opposition. The gameplay was scattered and sloppy, and the team did not appear to have a clear plan at any given time. Generation Four held map control for much of the match and The Raincallers’ kill production was thanks to precision shooting by Burns and Lunatic from disadvantageous positioning. Ultimately, it was the skill of these two players that carried the team to victory, as Detach posted a 7 – 12 record while Saiyan quietly went 10 – 10.

The following game, Warlock Flag, appeared to be more of the same, as The Raincallers struggled to coordinate decisive flag runs, and had difficulty responding to the opponent’s advances. If their first round performance is any indication, it may be a struggle for The Raincallers to reach the Championship Bracket.
