MILWAUKEE, Aug. 2 (AP) - Prosecutors ended their investigation on Tuesday into a shooting at a church service without determining the exact reason the gunman attacked the pastor and his family, killing seven people and then himself.

District Attorney Paul E. Bucher of Waukesha County said the gunman, Terry Ratzmann, 44, selected the pastor's family "for execution and then randomly opened up fire after that."

Computers taken from Mr. Ratzmann's home after the March 12 attack at the service, held by the Living Church of God, revealed nothing, Mr. Bucher said. An autopsy report released in May showed no alcohol or drugs in Mr. Ratzmann's system, though he had a thyroid condition that might have contributed to the depression that friends and family said had plagued him for years.
