On March 27, the House of Dancing Water Theatre was buzzing with liveliness from the 8th Asian Film Awards. AFA was first established in 2007 in order to recognize distinguished films, actors, and directors in the region. Dubbed as the "Asian Oscars," the Asian Film Awards represents the pinnacle of Asian cinema every year. This year, 26 movies from 13 countries and areas contended for 14 categories.
Nominated in 11 categories, The Grandmaster won 7 awards, including Best Film, Best Actress (Zhang Ziyi), Best Director (Wong Kar-wai), Best Production Designer (William Chang Suk Ping and Alfred Yau Wai Ming), Best Costume (William Chang Suk Ping), Best Composer (Nathaniel Mechaly and Umebayashi Shigeru) and Best Cinematographer (Philippe Le Sourd).
