Why it is prescribed :
This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for susceptible infections.
It works by fighting against the bacteria in the body.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
Hypersensitivity and bruising.
Category C :
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus and there are no appropriate studies in pregnant women, but potential benefits may allow the use of the drug in pregnant women despite the potential for risks.
Dosage & When it is to be taken (Indications):
Adult: IV- The recommended dose is 1-2 g 12 hourly.
How it should be taken :
It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider.
Warnings and Precautions :
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of allergy to penicillin or to cephalosporin, kidney impairment, during pregnancy and lactation.

Skin:
Rash, itching and hives.
•
Gastrointestinal:
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
•
Liver:
Increased level of liver enzymes.
•
Genitourinary:
Kidney inflammation/impairment.
•
Blood:
Decrease in blood counts.
•
Local:
Pain and swelling.
•
Miscellaneous:
Fever and epilepsy.
Other Precautions :
Monitor kidney function, blood counts regularly while taking this medication.
Storage Conditions :
Injection: Store below 25°C.
