The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman Plays ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’

We’ve got another amazing guest for this week’s episode of ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’. Mind-blending Dillinger Escape Plan / Giraffe Tongue Orchestra guitarist Ben Weinman sat down with us to prove and disprove what’s written about him on Wikipedia!

There’s so much bizarre Dillinger Escape Plan history to cover and since Weinman is the group’s sole founding member left, he’s the perfect man to clear the air. We got some fiction right away with Ben’s apparent straight-edge and vegetarian lifestyle. We also got to clarify the much-publicized story that Mike Patton gave Dillinger their break by personally inviting them to open for Mr. Bungle. Although this wasn’t quite true, Weinman describes how if it wasn’t for Patton’s support, we may not have gotten Calculating Infinity.

Ben told us all about the audition process which brought Greg Puciato into The Dillinger Escape Plan, recalling some hilariously bad submissions DEP got from potential vocalists. Wikipedia also harbors a confusing statement that Dillinger waited so long to release a second full-length due to “a number of bad fortunes” experienced by the band. Though not exactly true, Weinman did describe some cursed moments in Dillinger’s early career, such as original bassist Adam Doll’s paralysis and another member getting shot in the head.

Weinman also delved into unhealthy relationships influencing the last few Dillinger records, namely the push and pull Ben experiences between himself and Puciato. You’ll hear all about it in this fresh Wiki episode!

Check out the Dillinger Escape Plan edition of ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’ above! The Dillinger Escape Plan will unleash what will potentially be their final album, Dissociation, on Oct. 14. Weinman’s other project Giraffe Tongue Orchestra will unveil its debut recording, Broken Lines, on Sept. 23.
