(Sorry Nick, but there’s no way you’re winning this competition for overall chest viewership. Photo courtesy of Esther Lin’s archives.)
You can probably put this in the ‘fights that would have been great two years ago’ category, but at least it’s happening. According to GracieFighter.com – your go-to source for very brief stories on why the Gracie squad rules and you totally suck – Nick Diaz will be fighting Hayato “Mach” Sakurai in a 170-pound, non-title bout at Dream.15 in Tokyo at the end of May.
It’s a fight Diaz has been trying to secure for some time, only in light of Sakurai’s recent decline it seems far less competitive now. Sakurai lost his last two fights in decisive fashion, first to recent Diaz victim Marius Zaromskis via head kick, and then to Akihiro Gono via armbar. What’s worse is how uninspired he looked against Gono, as if he would rather be anywhere else than in the ring.
If that same Sakurai shows up to fight Diaz, who’s riding a six-fight winning streak since his TKO loss due to cuts against KJ Noons, it could be a very quick and painful night in front of his home crowd.

commentsThe name is a joke (on Kimbo). He's always looking for his bread. It's not meant to be serious.
Marius hit Diaz, Diaz got stunned, then Marius grazed his chin and Diaz hit the mat. Done. The eye rolling thing doesn't always happen. Go watch Liddell vs Couture 2.
Diaz bitching about him slipping is a fucking joke. He's trying to make himself look better than he really is. Any idiot can see that. Jackson did exactly the same to him too, he got sent to the mat several times in that fight. It looked exactly the same.
Nick Diaz wins fights, but considering that he's not fighting top flight competition, he stands no chance against top P4P fighters like GSP.
Don't get me wrong, Diaz is a good fighter, but not top P4P caliber. Someone like Thiago Alves would paint the octagon red with Diaz's blood. People who think Diaz can beat GSP don't know what the hell they are talking about.
1st how can anyone take you seriously with kimbo in your username? so during that fight. Zaromskis hits diaz hard and turned diaz's head. hurt diaz and made him cover. what are his eyes doing? they are looking at zaromskis, they aren't rolled back into his head. when eyes roll back it is a KO. while backing up diaz slipped and zaromskis had his best chance to finish but couldn't. end of story. you can't discredit the ass stomping he gave zaromskis. i thought that was a horrible thing to do to zaromskis. having his US debut against diaz was not fair to him.
how many fights are flawless victories? this was a heavy one sided fight, flawless? no...ask frank shamrock about one sided fights too lol
Watch the fight against Marius again; 2:33 on the fight clock in round one.
Watch it again, and again... then come here and kiss my hairy ass.
I'll be waiting for you. Homie.
do you know a certain fellow named Gegard Moussasi? He'd give anyone in the UFC LHW Division Fits. He'd easily be a top 5 contender.
In all honestly, I'm more excited to see Moussasi and Aoki fight, over the main event hendo shields fight.
I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see G. Moussasi in the UFC.
He has fought lesser cpmpetition, and yes, he made them look silly.
Zoromskis is a good fighter, and Diaz embarassed him. He beat him difinitively.
Yeah, like when he almost got KOed by Marius Zaromskis in his last fight.
just wait
Yeah not as high level of competition but still good fighters. Also he makes them look pretty bad in the process, the difference in skill levels is pretty apparent.
Nick Diaz v's GSP
Nate Diaz V's BJ Penn, we'll sort out
Cameron Diaz v's My Dick
HAHA no more weed for me
I think it is crazy that Dana is not after him in a hard core way. If there is any true challenger out there to de-throne the mighty GSP, it is Diaz!
And I dont say that lightly, I am a Canadian and will always root for my boy, but, Diaz is the shit. i would pay good money for that show, and I am guessing many of you out there would as well.
who better a challanger does GSP have? Seriously? there is none. If there were, we would have seen him by now and he would have stepped up.
Diaz has all the tools to get the job done, and he has exactly the kind of attitude and demeaner to make for a great drama in contrasting hype for a fight with GSP. Unlike the "Hey, I am a bad-ass, look at my hair! is that not proof to you americans that I am a bad-ass? please?"that Hardy put the show on for, Diaz is an actual Bad-Ass, and a true threat. (plus , Diaz would DESTROY Hardy in a stand-up match!)
enough blathering for me, im drunk and need to go to bed!.
And yeah Purple Pickle, I'd ante up to see the Diaz boys against any/all mw/ww/lw
Nick v's GSP, Nate v's BJ that would certainly stir some interest
Diaz has gone from my top five asshole to top five fighter in the world. I was a hater and now I'm a nuthugger. A boxing fanatic that I know was gushing about his stand-up the other day. I told him about Diaz' Gracie BJJ background and the consensus was that he was a badmuthafucka. Sans positive urine, that is.
Diaz vs any mw/ww/lw. I'll pay cash money to see that scrap.
