Letter from Congress Chair
It was Albert Einstein who said: “We cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Solving the problems of this millennium requires a new kind of thinking, and with it, a new kind of teaching. With a whole new generation of millennials entering our training institutions, it is time to rethink how we teach. In the light of this, we are proud to host the 54th National Congress of the South African Association of Physicists in Medicine and Biology, focusing on the Education and Training for Millennials. The SAAPMB 2016 congress will be hosted in Cape Town from 6 - 10 September 2016 at the Ratanga Junction Congress Venue.
The main congress will include three days of Medical Physics presentations by local as well as international delegates, followed by a special Education Day with invited speakers. This will focus on Education and Training of the Millennials, including the use of modern teaching devices.
Practical aspects of education and training will be addressed through a special workshop on the 10th of September, to be hosted jointly by the Elekta Radiation Therapy Training Centre and the Varian Access to Care training facility at Groote Schuur Hospital. This workshop will give delegates the opportunity to experience the practical radiotherapy training facilities and novel approaches to practical training that have been implemented at the training facilities. Due to the nature of this workshop, numbers will be limited to 40 delegates.
We are very proud to invite you to beautiful Cape Town to attend this congress.
