WIPO G-15 Seminar in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 24-25 April 2017
Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva/Chairman of the Personal Representatives of the Heads of State and Government of the Group of Fifteen and Mr. M. P. Thajuddin, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka met with Mr. Minelik Alemu Getahun, Assistant Director General, Global Issues Sector, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on 28 February, 2017. The details on the proposed Seminar for G-15 on Traditional Knowledge were discussed at the meeting.
Amb. Aryasinha and Mr. M. P. Thajuddin informed Mr. Getahun that Sri Lanka is pleased to host the G-15 event scheduled on 24-25 April, 2017 in Colombo. Mr. Getahun confimed his participation and thanked the Sri Lankan government for the hosting of this important meeting. He further noted that the preparations of the Seminar are very satisfactory. Both parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation between G-15 and WIPO.

G-15 & CERN recognize commitment to cooperation

The G-15 entered in to an agreement to further enhance cooperation with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the world’s leading institution for the study of particle physics based in Geneva, Switzerland. Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha, the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN Geneva signed the agreement as the Chairman of the Personal Representatives of the Heads of State and Government of the Group of Fifteen while Ms. Charlotte Warakaulle, Director for International Relations signed on behalf of the CERN, on 21st February, 2017.
Ms. Warakaulle noted that this is the first occasion CERN is entering into an agreement with a cross regional grouping such as the G-15 which is represented by countries from Asia, Africa and South America.
Amb. Aryasinha said that “CERN has now become a partner organisation with the G-15 as we seek to enhance capacity building, South-South cooperation and technical assistance within our Group.”
