Mark Zuckerberg gives family heirloom kiddush cup to daughter
In a Facebook post, world's richest Jew says he's passing down his great-grandfather's ritual goblet to 2-year-old Maxima
The world’s richest Jew may have pledged to give the vast majority of his wealth to charity, but Mark Zuckerberg’s great-grandfather’s kiddush cup is staying in the family.
Posting photos of his Shabbat candles and challah on Friday night, Zuckerberg said that he would be giving the ceremonial cup to his eldest daughter, Maxima.
“For shabbat tonight, we gave Max a kiddush cup that has been in our family for almost 100 years,” the 33-year-old billionaire wrote on his Facebook social media platform.
“Her great-great-grandfather Max got it after our family immigrated here and it has been passed down through our family ever since,” he added.

Last month Zuckerberg and his wife welcomed their second daughter, August, into the world, two years after Maxima was born.
In January Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post that while he once questioned his Jewish upbringing, he now believes that “religion is very important.”
After he wished his followers a “Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah” on December 25, one commenter asked: “But aren’t you an atheist?”
In response Zuckerberg replied: “No. I was raised Jewish and then I went through a period where I questioned things, but now I believe religion is very important.”
Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan, practices Buddhism.
The Facebook co-founder is one among billionaires who have vowed to donate most of their wealth to charitable causes. A Zuckerberg Chan Initiative established by the couple has pledged billions of dollars to improving life for their children’s generation with goals such as eliminating disease.
