We love leafy greens, and bask in them often (check out Greening your smoothie (literally!) and Don’t leave leafy greens behind). Not only are they delicious, but nutritious, too, and a gift that grows from our gardens.

But regardless if  you love the taste or simply reap the benefits, getting greens in your system is a must-do, and pureeing them in a smoothie is a tasty, convenient way to do it.

And like we mentioned, we’re big on green smoothies, and usually down them daily, full of freshsmoothie fruits, some nuts or seeds, an avocado, and a few handfuls of the green stuff. But the summer months give us a fresh idea to develop a new way to enjoy the smooth, fruity flavour.

Homemade “Popsicles”, of course. Green ones. (And no, not not those sugar-ridden lime-flavoured ones in the box).

Ah, yes. Popsicles, the progeny of summer memories. Cool, refreshing, and (who are we kidding?) fun and nostalgic, these tasty treats are a great way to cool down while enjoying the summer months.

As easy as whipping up your favourite smoothie mixture in the blender, just pour into popsicle molds, and enjoy. Add a little cacao for a raw version of a Fudgsicle, or add your favourite fruits to make the possibilities endless.

And the molds won’t set you back, either; check out IKEA for some brightly coloured, polypropylene (BPA-free) holders for just $1.99.

Blueberry Banana “Fudgsicles”
1/2 cup fresh spinach or kale washed and dried
1/3 cup frozen or fresh blueberries
1 small frozen banana
1/2 a ripe avocado
1-2 tablespoons cacao
1 scoop hemp protein powder (optional)
water (for desired consistency)
agave nectar (if you think you need it)

Put all ingredients in the blender, adding water until consistency is reached and agave if you need it a little sweeter. Pour into molds, freeze into treats, and enjoy!
